    Brian,

If you’ve already addressed this please provide a link.

I am assuming you were a cardinal fan as a young lad and then as an adult that kernel grew into you becoming a journalist that covers the Cardinals?

I first became a Cardinal fan in 1980 as a junior in hs. Growing up in Memphis we only had a AA team (I think it was the Mets back then) and of course in the 70s the ‘game of the week’ usually involved the Big Red Machine or the Oakland Athletics.

I drove up to StL with a couple of buddies in early Sept of 1983 to see a late season series against the Reds. That was my first trip ever to see them play.

On Sunday Bench hit a 3 run PH homer late in that game. Hugged the left field line as I recall.

Actually, I remembered that I was asked about my backstory by blogger Daniel Shoptaw (@C70) a few years ago. He was kind enough to re-send me the link. Take a listen and see if this answers the question.
