Somebody is messing with the MLB prospect rankings. The Cardinals top 30 now shows Jordan Walker as our #30 prospect and Winn as #1. Prospects are all switched around. Maybe they were hacked?
November 29, 2022 at 9:01 am #20773114NyquisTParticipantYeah, I saw that today cf64. Something is not kosher there.

November 29, 2022 at 1:41 pm #207748That is so funny! This morning the list was all shaken up! I printed it to prove I’m not crazy! Glad they got it fixed!

November 29, 2022 at 9:13 pm #207767Probably got things out of order by one spot, moving 2-1, 3-2, 4-3, etc and 1 ended up being 30 until someone caught the mistake.
November 29, 2022 at 9:14 pm #207768Whelp, now looking at the new link, my idea was wrong, lol/
November 30, 2022 at 9:44 am #20779414NyquisTParticipantNot that I find MLB’s top 30 to be very astute but they slipped Gomez in at #30 and we already have him at #15. Maybe too much rah-rah for him on this blog? Bernal at #11 maybe for the same reason.
November 30, 2022 at 12:10 pm #207797Gomez at no. 30 seems odd, but at least he is now on their list. I saw Bernal for an extended period for the first time this season and really like him. Not to be a spoiler, but he should be in our top 20 (but not yet as aggressive as 11).
November 30, 2022 at 3:59 pm #207801Gomez at no. 30 seems odd, but at least he is now on their list.
Maybe they want to be cautious until they find out he’s not a one season wonder.
November 30, 2022 at 4:08 pm #207802Bernal played in low A and did well at age 18, which in a sane baseball world would be exceptional. But the Internationals that come in at 17 are going to have to do that now. I don’t know how many will get squeezed out because they couldn’t advance at a brake neck pace. One wonders how much sense it makes to sign 17 year olds now, without the roster slots they probably need to develop before hitting A ball.
November 30, 2022 at 5:21 pm #207805I don’t know how they can defend ranking Lizandro Espinoza as a better prospect than Moises Gomez. While Lizandro may be an ok hitter, he’s likely limited to second base due to his arm strength, has zero power in a 5’7” frame, and doesn’t run real fast. Best case scenario seems to be future AAAA utility infielder. I can’t imagine that he would have any value to another team if we went to try to trade him. But Gomez certainly has some value. He will definitely be able to hit home runs at the MLB level. And, he plays a passable corner outfielder. There’s just the big question of how many strikeouts will go along with it.
And they have Nathaniel Heredia ahead of him too. Nathaniel is a 22 year old bullpen only pitcher with mixed results at A ball. I actually kind of like him, but again, there’s no way he is more valuable in a trade than Gomez.

I am guessing you didn’t know Gomez was ranked no. 16 in the Rays system in 2020 by these same MLB Pipeline folks. And the Rays system has been traditionally rated among the best in MLB.
So I would say “no” to your theory. (FWIW, I agree with our community.)
