Yep, Richie Hefner was indeed a grave digger in the off season. Probably a good vocation as he undoubtedly built up those forearms and shoulders a lot doing that, depending on how busy business was.
The all-time greatest line about offseason “jobs” though was the line in the movie “Major League”. Bob Uecker of course was the announcer, and in talking about the “Wild Thing”, Charlie Sheen’s character Uek says during a broadcast, “Vaughn, a juvenile delinquent in the off season.” 🙂
