Interesting you say that Nigel. I had read reports of that kind of behavior from him back when that trade happened. I think it was discussed on the Member Board back in the winter as well. Hopefully the kid will continue to mature because he does seem to have some physical skills.
Late to listen, but I enjoyed the episode this week. Really good discussion on Doyle and sounds exciting if he is starting to put things together.
Deniel Ortiz is a guy I would like to hear Kyle and Brian’s thoughts on. I am quite high on him, but I don’t have the time to watch the minors games to evaluate myself. But I am curious if the contact gains look real and if his defense is holding up at 3B.
Any chance Mendoza will get a call up? Good numbers at AAA, but at 26, the time would have to be now! I believe he will be a free agent at the end of the year, unless he signs a one year deal with the Cards. Appreciate your thoughts.
For Mendoza to get a chance, it would take another IL move on the StL infield. That seemed highly unlikely a week ago, before the rash of injuries. It would also require that none of the three currently shelved (Winn, JJ and Jordan) would be ready to come back before the season ends.
A week ago, I said it was very, very low odds. Now, his chances are improved, but it still depends on others.

I realize STL fans don’t like Kroenke for good reasons, but him buying the Angels and Moreno no longer being an owner is good for the sport. Moreno was such a bad owner.
I will finish the rest of the episode later, but I do agree with Kyle it makes no sense to let Winn and JJ play hurt especially when the team isn’t in contention.
Thanks for going over Baez and Ortiz. It was very good to hear Kyle’s thoughts on Ortiz’s defense. It sounds like he may not be a viable 3B without some work, but the bat should be able to play in my opinion somewhere.

The Cards could have a trio of silent consonant players here in the next few years. Yhoiker Fajardo, Jurrangelo Cijntje, and Cooper Hjerpe would all fit nicely in the “silent but deadly” pitching staff. 😀
On a final note, I’ve been trying to think of a semi recent great starting pitching debut for the Cards that was before Hjerpe’s. Going way back to Michael Wacha seems too long to be it, but it may well be the case. He went 7 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 0 walks, 6 Ks in his MLB debut against Kansas City in 2013.

After listening to the podcast this week, I was curious about the Springfield lineup compared to the playoffs last year. From what I could tell, only Clemente, Lin and Watson were on the roster at the end of the year in 2025 that are still on the roster this year. I was a little surprised that there was that much change! I guess the Development system is working like it supposed to!

I enjoyed your discussion, as always. I’m glad you brought up Sandro Santana. I’ve been digging into my rankings for our upcoming 2027 TCN Community rankings (beginning next week) and he’s a guy who will likely end up a lot higher on my list than I would have expected when we acquired him.
I didn’t realize that Brian and Kyle thought so highly of Jesus Baez and Trevor Condon. If the Cardinals slow walk Condon, we won’t be seeing him until 2029. Then, again, there’s the reality that when a player is ready for the next step, he’s ready for the next step. Time spent at a certain step is not really much of a factor. This discussion definitely gave me some things to think about. Thanks.
