David Hoffman Wants to Buy the Cardinals
DeWitt gave up on winning more than a decade ago. Now, he is prioritizing welfare.
Maybe it’s time for a new owner. Not sure Hoffman is the best fit, but will probably be better than DeWitt.
February 8, 2026 at 2:31 pm #300494Much talk about nothing, at least as long as BDW Jr. is still with us.
February 8, 2026 at 2:46 pm #300496While Dewitt seems to be very dollar conscious, other owners could be a lot worse especially an owner who has multiple professional teams and is highly leveraged, or some situation like the Twins have.
February 8, 2026 at 8:52 pm #300498Go Mr. Hoffman. The Cardinals will never be any good again as long as the DeWitt’s own the team.
February 9, 2026 at 12:37 am #300500Hoffman is a big blow hard. I think he just likes to see his name in print. There was all that talk about Hoffman converting so much of southeastern Misouri into wine counctry and nothing ever came of it. Ignore this nonsense.
February 9, 2026 at 8:07 am #300506I figure if I can get Pugsley to go in with me, we can make Bill an offer that will be hard to refuse. Hoffman has no shot now.

This is sad but true.
Jnev…. I’ll put in everything that I own.
February 9, 2026 at 11:50 am #300521I am not sure what the significnce is of stating a “billionaire” wants to buy the Cardinals. Just about every MLB owner is a billionaire so big deal. Net worth of the owner does not necessarily correlate with the size of the budget or payroll.
February 9, 2026 at 4:43 pm #300530I guess the only significance is that he can afford it. Had I made the announcement, no one would have paid attention, rightfully!

It assumes the Dewitts will want to sell. Which they’ve been on the record as not selling.
I can’t wait for the rebuild to work. I know almost all of you can’t sit through it.
February 10, 2026 at 5:00 am #300545That either wants to sell is not my assumption. But having been in the room when this was discussed and having known them, I am very confident that BDW Jr. will not. Once his Dad is gone, BDW III’s approach as the sole leader is unknown. I still doubt he would sell, but am less confident about that. Hope that clarifies.

ParticipantDeWitt’s pockets touch the ground. I’d prefer Hoffman, but it ain’t happening. Right now this teamed seems to be cursed.

Oh what a dream team ownership combo we would make, Jnevel. Dodger fans would come to hate the Cardinals, as Jnevel would outbid them for all of the upper tier free agents. LA would be relegated to signing the Paul DeJongs of the world while we ink the Ohtani’s and the Tuckers. And I would bring back 10 cent beer nights for any and all evening home games, plus I would trot around the outfield atop my pet mule (Clarence) tossing out all sorts of goodies to those sitting in the cheap seats 30 minutes prior to the first pitch……and who cares if batting practice is in progress as Clarence has been thoroughly trained in getting him and especially me, out of harms way when line drives come our way. In short, with Jnevel and myself as Cardinal owners, they’d be getting George Steinbrenner and Charles Finley all rolled into one neat little package.
February 10, 2026 at 2:37 pm #300562Hoffman is just floating the idea because it might be a way for him to pick up an extra billion$ or so. The value of the franchise is down for now. But that value is going to shoot back up again as soon as the Cardinals resume their winning ways. WDWJr is a true baseball fan. He’s good for the city, good for the Cardinal fan base, and good for baseball.

ParticipantIf you were going to pick a future owner for the Cardinals, Hoffman would be at the bottom of the list. What he pulled in the wine country area of our community was brutal.
February 10, 2026 at 4:20 pm #300577Probably better than an Ohio billionaire. They should have residency requirements for ownership…
February 10, 2026 at 7:41 pm #300584As much as we get disgruntled with DeWitt, Hoffman would be worse. Hard pass.

Mud…. with all due respect. Define “winning ways”. There’s no guarantee that the enthusiasm for the team will return as we’re living in a different cultural climate. All the empty seats may never be filled again. IMO, he may be good for the Baseball Village or whatever they call it. And what has he done for the fans lately? There’s no doubt that the franchise is in freefall right now.
I’m going to try very hard to be optimistic…. but that’s a tough row to hoe.

ParticipantMaybe this guy should go try to buy the angels. Their owner just said fans dont care about winning, i think their fans might want a new owner, i def think their players do. Owners that think like that should be forced to sell. I dont think the cardinals owners fall in that category. They tend to just be inept.
February 24, 2026 at 8:51 am #301609Agree … the Angels would be a better target! It would be better for Angel fans if he let professionals run the club. Artie is a meddler and that has hurt the club.
February 24, 2026 at 12:21 pm #301621(Head shaking side-to-side)….Owners.
