DSL Cards at/vs. Angels (2)
So Alcantara comes in to pitch in relief, couple of potential reasons:
1. Hicks approach of limiting innings
2. Being groomed for a need in StL
When I saw his name in box score flipped on milbtv. It was interesting he was pitching out of the stretch with no one bases. True reliever approach. Leads me to guess being groomed as reliever need versus just limiting innings.
For those members who read the Palm Beach Notebook, you know the Cardinals already did the same thing with both Connor Jones and Jordan Hicks in recent days.
Not saying they couldn’t promote Alcantara, but just pointing out that the move is not unique.
(P.S. Alcantara’s 2H results as a starter are very good. Still improving in that role.)
Could be a combination of limiting innings and prepping for a big-league relief role, but should be noted the Springfield coaching staff has mentioned cutting starters workloads for some time now.
In a 3-4 Wednesday across the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system, our Player of the Day Sam Tewes pitched Palm Beach to a win over Jupiter. Other mound standouts include Peoria’s Anthony Shew and Jose Moreno from the Dominican Summer League.
