Hudson’s strikeouts are coming up a little this year. He’s still walking guys a bit more than you’d like but maybe he’s got a Miles Mikolas type surge in his future. Still, he’s probably earned his shot to come up this year to the bullpen if nothing else, and to compete for a rotation spot next year. Unless some trades happen, there is no shortage of viable candidates for the last couple rotation slots…Reyes, Flaherty, Weaver, Hudson, Gant, Helsley, Gomber, Poncedeleon…good issue to have. Would be a better issue if the guys who don’t make it help fill out a front line bullpen.

At present the STL rotation is set with CMartinez-Wacha-Mikolas-Flaherty-Weaver. Both CMartinez & Weaver are struggling but I think that a change there will happen soon, certainly with CMartinez. A trip back to the DL is a possibility. Weaver, after a fine April start, is having problems.

IMO, Gant would be next up. He returned to MEM to get stretched out and will remain in the Redbird rotation until needed in the STL starting five. Helsley is still DLed, Poncedeleon & Gomber are presently in the Card’s bullpen. Hudson would be next in line at #7.

I put “IMO” because its just my opinion and things almost always work out differently.

I agree with you, at present. With the benefit of time, I think we will see some of the guys start to separate themselves out a bit more. Weaver has the most precarious position, and we could be looking at Wacha leaving after 2019. So, some of those guys may be needed in the event of injuries or departures. Like I said, it is a nice problem to have. The one slight negative is that there really is no standout left-hander in the group.
