July 24, 2018 at 8:32 pm #61954
stlcard25ParticipantAndy Young with his first two homers for Springfield thus far tonight.
July 24, 2018 at 8:52 pm #61965A guy playing for Springfield who has had a good season is Lane Thomas OF 22 years old 18 HRs 12 SB .262 BA.I think this is the 1st healthy season he has had in years.Another guy is Evan Mendoza3B having a bit of a rough go but still is supposed to be a good defensive 3B who is still just 22 and hope he can develop some pop as he matures.A top 30 Cards prospect per MLB.COM
July 24, 2018 at 9:35 pm #62003Thomas has been a pleasant surprise but he needs to show even more power if he is going to have a 30% k rate. Mendoza needs to find some power period. He is young though and has time.

stlcard25ParticipantMemphis teeing off on Salt Lake City. Voit now with a homer and triple and 5 RBIs while O’Neill has two more HRs tonight and 3 ribbies. Ravelo has two HRs and Adolis Garcia one as well. 14-3 Redbirds
July 24, 2018 at 9:57 pm #62022Beat me to the update 25.Voit up to .298 now.
July 24, 2018 at 11:52 pm #62030Thomas’s K rate of 23.2% is more manageable with his .216 ISO entering Tuesday. He can play defense, too. https://twitter.com/tulsadrillers/status/1021969531282104323?s=21
July 25, 2018 at 12:42 am #6203168 runs on 75 hits tonight as the system went 5-2. Six homers at both Memphis and Springfield.
Homers by Woodall and Cedeno for Johnson City in a 93 win. JC getting some pitching lately. Gorman returned to the line up and went 1-4 with a walk and 3 K’s (ouch).
Two homers by O’Neil (24 & 25), Ravelo, Lane Thomas (20 & 21) and Young.
July 25, 2018 at 6:36 am #62038Bw52, Mendoza is a top 15 prospect right here at TCN! His power could come later ala Matt Carpenter, but he lacks the .400 OBP of Matt, though Mendoza did show it at the start of the season at PB (.394).
Thomas was at 31, but will be moving up quite a bit.

stlcard25ParticipantI’m officially on the Evan Mendoza bandwagon. I think he has a lot of potential, especially starting from a good defensive reputation. I think the Cards really like him too. MLB.com’s ratings are mostly poor, IMO.
July 25, 2018 at 8:49 am #62051I like Evan Mendoza 3B-I think of Kenny Reitz when I think of him.Glove good,Bat ?.He has time to grow and mature to gain some pop.Even if he plays good defense and hits .270 with 25 2Bs 5-10 HRs 60-70 RBis and good contact skills to go with top notch defense I think Cards could live with that.
Lane Thomas is quietly putting up some good numbers Power/speed . also at AA.Cards wealth of young OF prospects just keeps rolling on.Lane Thomas good season kind of offsets Adolis Garcias poor showing so far this season.A. Garcia has decent power numbers but his .BA,OBP,and BB/K rates are subpar.I would have to think ONeill is our #1 OF prospect,Mercado #2 OF prospect,Arozarena #3,Lane Thomas #4.Adolis Garcia #5July 25, 2018 at 9:07 am #62053
stlcard25ParticipantBw, I’d put Dylan Carlson ahead of Thomas. He’s three years younger than Lane, only one level behind and has a pretty decent line (110 wRC+). His power is starting to show up and by all reports he’s not a bad defender. I probably would even place him number 2 on that list.
Lane’s power is pretty cool though as a return for bonus money.

Participantbw, bud… these kind of comments should be on the “affiliates” topic. same thing 25. These are good opinions and observations.
July 25, 2018 at 9:35 am #6205825-i completely forgot about Carlson since I was thinking of guys in AAA and AA.My bad.Good catch .
July 25, 2018 at 9:47 am #62062On Tuesday, the #STLCards system went 5-2 on Tuesday as Memphis and Springfield totaled 36 hits and 30 runs scored. Multi-home run hitters include Tyler O’Neill, Rangel Ravelo, Andy Young (p) and Lane Thomas. Free daily game recaps at The Cardinal Nation. https://t.co/pQ8FNIUG55 pic.twitter.com/W9k0PEbRor

stlcard25ParticipantLooks like no “Player of the Day” either of the last two days? Doing away with it, or just too many good performances to pick from?
July 25, 2018 at 10:48 am #62077It’s the latter, 25, particularly for last night’s games. Multiple players with two-HR efforts and lots of RBI’s. Didn’t want to short-change anyone.

stlcard25ParticipantSpeaking of Lane Thomas:
.@Cardinals prospect Lane Thomas must be a magician.

July 25, 2018 at 6:44 pm #62180Lane Thomas will be an interesting call for rule 5 protection. Doubtful the Cards want to lose him but he also seems unlikely to stick.on a major league roster for a whole year (but not impossible).
