DSL Red at Rangers2It seems rare that a minor league reliever who was drafted in the 39th round in 2013 would be converted to starter in 2017 at the AAA level. What’s the Kevin Herget story? He seems to be an anomaly.
Fun fact: Pinder and Carlson both have the same number of at bats and the same number of hits at Palm Beach so far in 2018.
Herget made nine spot starts last year as a long reliever for Memphis. He wasn’t among the top five starters coming out of camp this spring, but when St. Louis began to call them up, there was no one ready at Springfield for promotion, so they plugged Herget back into the rotation.
He struck out 11 in seven innings in G2 of the DH tonight, but gave up two HRs. The Memphis offense was shut out so he took the loss. In G1, Hudson kept on keeping on. 13-2 with a 2.36 ERA.

trade Gyorko (he has value as a bench versatile power bat)
and let him play, see if we just have a late bloomer before we let someone else grab him for free
defensively we know he is solid, offense wise his last two years have to be respected…if we give him a shot and he blows it…no worries it’s no real loss….but if he truly has figured it out a little late, a slick fielding 3bman with a cannon arm and the ability to play 1b too, with a respectable bat (2.75, with 15 HRs) definitely would have a place on the MLB club if not as a starter
our Memphis infield (+Munoz) would not embarrass at the MLB level IMO…it might not be great but:
Kelly/Knizner, Ravelo/Voit, Schrock, Munoz, Wisdom (then go ahead and go ONeill, MErcado, BAdeR)…that’s not an NL contender but it isnt badIf the Cardinals are moving in a new direction, I almost want them to clean house and just move on…keep some select parts…not because they are bad (for the most part) but because we want to change our identity…we have very talented young players that is a success of the system…that combiend with who we keep as well as what is acquired in the trades and throw in a FA signing or two and the makeover would be complete…we dont need to tank for a year or two, we just need to move a lot of guys who just haven’t worked well together….that isnt a failing to hurt your ego, it’s just a recognition of what successes you have made and what you want your team to be…

i have been impressed with AAA…i do have to say looking at boxes of the lower level pitching has made me a little worried, even if it is still early…
