The GCL Cards scored 9 runs today on only 4 hits. The first four runs they scored in the decisive 8th inning came on 6 walks and a hit by pitch.

Those rookie-level hitters could teach the MLB team some plate patience. Then again, at that level, some pitchers can be REALLY wild…

And Fernandez is still not being used in key save situations while they keep trotting out Ellis, Beck, Elledge and Cruz.

Other than helping Memphis win more games in a lost season, why does it matter in what innings Fernandez pitches? How he is being used now is probably closer to how he would be used in St. Louis. He just needs innings. Which ones are far less important in his development, IMO.

P.S. Elledge is a prospect in his own right, though not moving as fast as Junior. Elledge was bombed in his Triple-A debut, which skew his numbers, but since then has been very good.

I guess I am into winning too much. I know that is not the ultimate goal in the minor leagues. The Big Red Machine in Cincinnati was built on a mediocre minor league system with some exceptional individuals.
