August 6, 2017 at 5:25 pm #29872Flaherty having a good day
That's seven of the last eight Rainiers retired to @Jack9Flaherty!
He's through 6.0 shutout IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 7 K!
Memphis 5, Tacoma 0, T7.

August 6, 2017 at 5:40 pm #29873When you have that as your 7th 8th or 9th starter you know something is going right.
(Weaver and lyons and … Well… You get the point)
August 6, 2017 at 5:40 pm #298747 th inning went k- k- ground out for a Flaherty.
Approaching 100 pitches likely done for the day 2 singles and 1 walk no base runner beyond first base. Had the curve, slider, and fastball all working well.
Rainer announcer said it best. Something along the lines of the cardinals $2M bonus looks like it is going to pay them back well.

ReyesWhat do you do with Weaver
and Flaherty?August 6, 2017 at 6:35 pm #29881Reyes will be in the bullpen… Tj rehab
I dont see how we don’t deal some players. But then I didnt see us only dealing one pitcher at the deadline either.
We simply have too many random parts and a lot of them are pitchers.

ParticipantYouth rotation –
Reyes
Weaver
Flaherty
Hudson
AlcantaraHow do you know phase them in?
August 6, 2017 at 7:22 pm #29887We need a 2019 closer. That assumes Rosenthal makes it through 2018 without falling apart or we may need one sooner. Should one of these guys be groomed for that role? If so, which one?

August 6, 2017 at 8:16 pm #29890In second Double-A start, Ryan Helsley hurls 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball for Springfield, fanning eight. Fastball hit 99 in last frame.

August 6, 2017 at 9:02 pm #29892…. And he is what… Ninth or tenth pitcher on our prospect list? Fifteenth?
Sheesh.

ParticipantMy choice for closer would be Wacha.
August 6, 2017 at 9:37 pm #29894Alcantra would seem to be the logical choice but Mo has gone out of his way to say that he sees Alcantra as a starter.
August 6, 2017 at 9:39 pm #29895Wacha might buy you a year or two. Of course that creates a hole in the rotation.
August 6, 2017 at 9:43 pm #29896Morales has his ERA down to 0.50. I think that is 12 straight appearances without giving up a run. Needs to be tested at AAA.

Participant2018 rotation –
Waino
Martinez
Leake
Weaver
FlahertyCloser – Wacha
Long man – ReyesAugust 6, 2017 at 11:03 pm #29899Maybe you think i’m nuts.. But I would do this.
Martinez
Lynn
Leake
Weaver
WachaCloser : wainright
Setup : reyes rosenthal and two minor leaguers
Lefties : pick a few we have choicesAs for why… He has done it before and for a year? He can still dial it up enough for that. Sell him on three more years as a closer. I think he has that much left in the tank similar to smoltz.

ParticipantMorales has made the most of his comeback. I can see him in Busch sometime in ’18 if his body holds up.
I’ve remained high on this ex-starter… good move to the BP.August 9, 2017 at 10:51 am #30152Isn`t Alcantara still dealing with control issues? Has the FO soured on Rowan Wick and his arm?
What about Tuivalaila getting a shot at closing in Spring training . -
