ParticipantFor Springfield, Alcantara missed his start on Wednesday and could start today. Otherwise it should be Gomber.
August 26, 2017 at 8:49 am #31680Alcantara joined the list of starters working out of the pen the rest of the way.

ParticipantYeah, I forgot he pitched two innings out of the pen on Wednesday.
August 26, 2017 at 7:51 pm #31708Gomber with another boring no hitter through five.
August 26, 2017 at 7:57 pm #31709… And while I’m thinking about it.
I think knizner has to crack our top ten. He’s had a heck of a year. Given his position and the performance of Springfields staff … Fairly solid.
I know it will be hard to crack the top five but it is so hard to find catchers… Having two guys like kelly and knizner is almost unfair (not complaining).
August 26, 2017 at 8:06 pm #31711No no through six now.
if gomber isn’t pitcher of the month in august… Someone was stupidly good.
4-0 with 0.67 era … Before a no hitter through six tonight.
Yeah maybe he blows up and give up ten runs in the seventh but I think it is safe to say he has mastered aa.
August 26, 2017 at 8:48 pm #31715Someone has been stupidly good – Ramon Santos at PB. But Gomber has been as well. They each may have one start left this month.
August 26, 2017 at 9:03 pm #31719Agreed on Gomber.
And Knizner is really doing well. I remember during spring training seeing him get a lot more time with the big club (along with Ortega) instead of Jeremy I really wanted to watch him closer this year. Seems he is showing why their interest befor the season was shown
August 26, 2017 at 9:51 pm #31726Saw Tovar PR for Mejia in the 7th ? Injury or on his way to Stl?

ParticipantLuke 3 out of 5 with a homer last night. Tearing it up since being sent down.
Mayers with 2 shutout innings and 4 Ks. Why doesn’t it transfer?
August 27, 2017 at 7:34 am #31735The St. Louis Cardinals system was 6-1 on Saturday. Our Player of the Day is Peoria’s Frederis Parra, who pitched seven scoreless innings in the Chiefs’ shutout of Kane County. Other pitching standouts include Austin Gomber, Connor Jones, Johan Oviedo and Diego Cordero.

ParticipantDoes anyone know if Oviedo’s velocity is returning to the high
90s? Someone said it was down this year.August 27, 2017 at 9:51 am #3174714NyquisT
ParticipantRamon Santos(PB) has had a great Aug. except for one dip on the 14th… 5.0 inn. GS=33. Kruczynski(PEO) is another having a great AUG…. avr GS=62.8. State College’s Andy Summerville has been lights out in 5 starts GS avr=66.6. Seijas has really turned it around at Johnson City and has had his best month of his young pro career.
But Gomber’s Aug. has been extraordinary…. an avg GS of 72 in 5 starts has him quieting some of his detractors because of some very average months early on. He’s back, baby. Go Lefty.August 27, 2017 at 11:37 am #31759Here was an update from Keith Law’s chat on Oviedo a few days back:
Dan: Is Johan Oviedo the next big Cardinals pitching prospect? Has a ways to go but it seems like the upside is quite substantial.
Keith Law: Upside is huge. Also, over/under on times I refer to him as Juan Carlos: 2.5.
