Kruczynski had another subpar outing, charged with six runs, five earned, in four plus innings. He walked the bases loaded in the fourth then two scored on a single. Gregerson was brought in with no outs and allowed both inherited runners in to score plus one of this own. Between them, they turned a one-run Springfield lead into a four-run deficit.
Earlier, Brian O’Keefe hit a three-run homer to dead center.

Saturday’s game between the Memphis Redbirds and Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals) has been postponed due to inclement cold weather. It is scheduled to be made up tomorrow as part of a doubleheader starting at 2:05. Both games of the doubleheader are slated as seven-inning games.

Looks like Gregerson is having problems with AA batters too. He appears to be on a season long rehab..LOL Where are they hiding Bret Cecil now?
Really sorry to see the Springbirds having a tough season. Seems as if it is the pitching that is the problem and that does not bode well for the future of the Cards…but not the immediate future.

Kruczynski has to be the biggest disappointment in the system. Springfield’s pitching coach Darwin Marrero must be scratching his head. He was supposed to be ready for a breakout season, his pro stats have been fine in our organization right along. He was promoted to AA beginning on July 30th of last season and dominated in five of his six starts there.
This season all five of his starts have been garbage to the tune of an ERA of 10.97. Is Evan injured, confidence lost? mechanics?. He has totally lost traction, very disturbing. His last four outings have come at home so you can’t blame road games.
He was in line to anchor the S-Birds rotation along with Shew and WPerez, who have recently got their mojo going…. but not Kruczynski. If he had been even close to his past performance the ‘Birds might be a .500 team instead of wallowing in last place. Montero’s and Hurst’s slow starts haven’t helped, and now Montero is on the IL. These situations are the biggest reason SPFD isn’t winning.

Thanks Brian. I knew he had been floating around the minors on rehabs. I think he and Cecil are Mo and Mike’s headaches as to what to do with them. Luke probably has first dibs on coming back to the pen if a IL pops up or replacing one of those presently there (Gallegos or Helsley) but I can’t see how they will ever fit Cecil back into action unless he shows major improvement on rehabs – which he has not progressed to yet as far as I know.
Springfield’s offense is just fine – they are third in the league in scoring. Last night was typical. They scored seven but gave up 10. The bullpen has been undependable. It is pretty easy to pinpoint the problem when the team has a 5.97 ERA. Kruczynski is most obvious because he was the highest ranked prospect, but there are six pitchers on the team with ERAs at seven or higher.
I know I am preaching to the choir with this but off and on I have tried to check on minor league pay issues and just ran across this article about the Blue Jays raising the pay of their minors by 50%. But the article has a lot that I never knew about how MLB is doing a real screw job on the geese that lay the golden eggs for them – the minor leagues. If you have a moment read this:

Really makes one wonder how some of the marginal guys can even hang on for as long as they do. I guess their dreams take a while to end.
