Gorman has homers in both games of the doubleheader tonight and 5 RBIs. Helps take a touch of the sting out of the big league team’s dud so far tonight.

Gorman is up to 20 RBIs in 21 games, and has a .325/.389/.650 slash line, good for a 189 wRC+. In case we might forget, he is 18 years old. Wowsers.

Brady Whalen was an intriguing guy drafted a few years back as a SS/3B type. Now that he’s pretty much a 1B now he’s not as interesting, although he is finally hitting now at Peoria in his age 21 season. Maybe he becomes an interesting prospect if he can run a 165 wRC+ all season long.

The Cardinals system has a history of producing big, one dimensional 1B who could slug but not do much else. Matt Adams, Luke Voit, and now Ravelo, Nogowski, Baker and Whalen.

These three guys are not sluggers, IMO. Their standout stat is their OBP.

Ravelo has averaged under six home runs per season over his career. His career OBP is .366, which is a big reason Stubby Clapp liked to bat him second.
Nogowski has averaged just five HR. His career OBP is .367.
Baker hit his first HR of the season last night and had just four last year. His career OBP is an impressive .401.
