Matthews get Norfolk 1-2-3 in the first, with a K, an infield popup and a weak grounder. Velo topped at 93. Perhaps he is dialing back just a bit to regain control, recognizing that he can probably live at 93 given the rest of his stuff?

I said this last time and another time over the offseason. This is exactly what Matthews should continue to do. Nothing over 94. Stay mostly at 93. He can absolutely have success there.

Hopefully he’s listening to you, jnevel!

Carves ’em up in the 2nd, too, fanning the first two and then getting a weak grounder. 6 up, 6 down.

Memphis up 10-0. Should be 4-0, but the Norfolk CF just whiffed on a not that hard fly ball with the bases loaded.

In the the third, Matthews gets a moderately hard hit fly ball for a first out, a second fly ball that sneaks over the the fence just fair of the foul pole. Then a line drive single. Then a 104 mph liner to CF. then fans Barrero. He had at least three pitches at 94 in the third. Not sure if the harder hit balls were tied to his seemingly trying to get more velo. And with that, I’m switching to the big league game.

Flores might be a guy to keep an eye on. Came away a little impressed when I watched him in Peoria. Handles his position ok and can hit.

If anyone is looking to attend a minit league game. Right now they are running a deal for $10 tickets for minor league contests through the mlb app until April 28th for select games. Might swoop a couple up and take the nephews or a buddy.

Any idea why Quinn was pulled after 4? He pitched efficiently the first 2 innings and after that long inning seemed to have lost his command again. But he still was only at 71 pitched so he could have went another easily.

Peoria has been playing better lately. SP has been better and they have a good lineup. Dohm had a really good outing.

Agreed 858 on Flores. Hopefully he can keep this up and come Memorial Day be looking at a Springfield promotion which then unblocks Gurevitch from a promotion to Peoria. I’m curious how aggressive they will be with Rainiel. Would they consider promoting him Memorial Day since he is making easy work of A+?

I don’t know. A guess is to ensure he had a positive outing overall.

Peoria allowed 18 hits tonight and their players struck out 17 times. That is extra ugly. Franklin had a rough night.
