Walker will never be a great or probably not even a good outfielder. You can take as donkey out to the racetrack as many times as you want, its never going to be secretariat.

But, Walker is a lot more like Secretariat than a donkey. Great speed, athletic, power arm. It’s not like we are putting Rowdy Tellez out there.

I think the skills required to be a good outfielder – positioning, jump, angle to the ball – can be learned and improved upon. Jordan already has the natural gifts.

As Tim McCarver would say, “This is the big leagues.”

You don’t come to MLB to learn to play baseball. This is the show. The top of the game. That’s not to say a player can’t still refine and improve. But learning to play the game is what the minor leagues are for.

If Bloom has enough pull, maybe Mo will bundle the lost causes.

When you have the “natural gifts” to play the outfield, you adapt to the outfield like Tommy Edman did. There is no training wheels season(s) necessary.

If Mo bundles Helsley, who is too expensive, Burleson who is a platoon bat and defensive liability, Herrera who does not have the arm to catch, and lost causes Walker and Gorman, he should be able to offload all the contracts guys without BDW having to write any checks. In that case, there should be ample payroll room to hire a real center fielder and an infielder to complement Winn, Saggese and Donovan. The system would have to provide a left fielder, or Mo could hire one. BDW should be willing to go for that if he didn’t get wrung out sending cash along with bad contracts. On the pitching side, we have a whole cluster of supposedly top 20 or so starters at or near the top of the system. If they can pitch, they should pitch, if not, quit wasting time and resources playing make believe.

I always paid close attention at work only for fear of getting whistle bit.
