I posted something on the members side about who I thought should win Brian’s end of season rewards. And that got me thinking about some minor league awards that I want to hand out. Brian has the main awards. I’ll get to some “B” side awards. Let’s start with the pitchers:

Most Fun Pitcher to Watch: Hancel Rincon
Last year this was probably Marrero. But this year I’m going with Rincon. He’s a little guy that gets some great enthusiasm when things go well for the team.

Best Single Game Pitched: Tekoah Roby
I’m not going back to look at the date, but there was a game early in the year where Roby looked as dominant as any pitcher I’ve ever seen pitch in the Minors. Unfortunately, it was not repeatable.

Most Comical Pitcher to Watch: Wilfredo Pereira
Wilfredo has been around quite some time now. The guy gets a little bigger every year. If you think Lynn was a big guy, you ought to see Wilfredo. He’s a giant. And it’s entertaining every time he comes in.

    Most Consistently Unhittable: Cooper Hjerpe
Hence and Mathews deserve some shout outs here, but both had a little inconsistency (Mathews because he kept having to adjust to a new level). Hjerpe consistently dominated. However, they often pulled him after 3 innings.

Most Boring to Watch: Trent Baker
Trent is going to throw you a sinking fastball. And then he’s going to do it again. And then again. He might mix in a slider occasionally. Neither is exciting, but both are good enough to just keep him afloat. He’s durable enough to probably do this for 150 pitches every outing. But he’s so hittable that he doesn’t typically make it more than 5.

    Most Overrated Pitcher: Pete Hanson
I still cannot believe he shows up in a lot of lists. He’s old for his level and is just solid, but not great. There’s a reason he hasn’t been promoted.

    Most Underrated Pitcher: Max Rajcic
I’m going with Rajcic because people will see his stat line this year and think that he’s not very good. But he is. Also, he gets lost because everyone talks about the 8 or so other pitchers perceived to be better than him. Look for Racjic to be in a lot more discussions next season.

    One more . . .

The Wild Thing Award: Jack Ralston
Every time Jack has come back from injury (last year and this year) he starts out so wild that you almost need Bob Ueker to call his games. “Juuust a bit outside. Tried the corner and missed. Ball 4. Ball 8. And Ralston has walked the bases loaded on 12 straight pitches. Man, how can guys lay off pitches that close?”
