Should the Cardinals sign him? I believe they should.

Signing a 37-year-old DH-only player seems another Matt Carpenter kind of move. I imaging getting younger would preclude such an addition.

Yeah, but JD’s a RH candidate at DH…In regards to RH’ed bats, how about a little Cardinal trivia? What does Adam Wainwright have in common with Paul DeJong?

Good question. Certainly Martinez has been a solid bat. I think he fits more with a club in need of one more good hitter that will give them a better chance at winning a division. Our club probably should stick with Burleson and perhaps Contreras at the DH role for most of the ABs.

I can’t imagine why a rebuilding team would want to sign a 37 year old who can only DH.

That’s a big “no”. Unless the plan is to trade him mid season to a contender for prospects.

Cards need to re-build & re-tool their entire farm system. They need to remember how to develop young players. This has to be the focus in 2025.

I would rather not sign anyone than take on Martinez. Hitting RH is a plus, but Martinez cannot play the field at all and would be a pure DH. We already have a glut of 1B, DH type guys and we don’t need another one. If we take on a FA, it needs to be a RH 4th OF who can maybe play some 3B/2B in a pinch as well.
