What makes this season so hard is the expectations that came with it especially after last year. I am watching a team that just seems to be going through the motions. I am not saying they don’t want to win but it’s like they have a whatever approach to the game. The games get harder and harder to watch. Starting the season, I’d watch expecting them to win… now I’m just hoping. As much as I feel that the only change that needs to be made is a new manager, and the likely hood of that happening increases the more we lose but I will never root for the Cardinals to lose so that happens. I just hope if we continue to lose… something is done.

I agree this team is hard to watch, but I think we should clarify what is meant by expectations. Last year, we were essentially a .500 ish team well behind the Division leader and out of a wild card spot. Mo brought in a coulple rentals for the rotations and in September we had a winning streak which, combined with an epic collapse by the Brewers, let us sneak into the playoffs, where we proptly got our head handed to us by a good team.
Over the winter Mo did nothing to improve the team. So what was the reasonable expectation for this year? .500 maybe?
June 17, 2023 at 11:17 am #224721Baseball is hard for me to watch – Period!
The stupid gold chains and earrings.
The stupid stuff that goes on in the dugout after a homerun. Putting on those helmets and capes and jackets, etc, etc. That’s making a mockery of the game.
The stupid new rules such as ghost runner at 2ndbase, pitch clock, have to face three batters.
The way players celebrate when they get a big double or a homerun. That type of thing shows up the opposition and is not good for the game.
All the strikeouts because players are trying to slug a homerun instead of just trying to make contact and put the ball in play at critical times.
Whatever happened to good old fashioned baseball???

June 17, 2023 at 11:47 am #224723Yeah, if they wanted to come up with a good rule they could easily eliminate the cute and adorable practice of adorning themselves with the trinket accessories on the playing field. Simply claim it’s in the interest of safety as well as not being a part of the uniform. I realize that most of these guys are still too young to realize how silly they look, but they should be required to either leave the accessories at home on their vanity tables or remove all that stuff and place it in their designer purses prior to taking the field…

It was boring. It is better now. It is a game it is supposed to be fun. Not some kind of sleepwalking robots playing a game.
June 17, 2023 at 1:34 pm #224734Yeah, I know what you mean, Bling. I don’t expect Hollywood to show up knockin’ on the door anytime soon. And I know these guys are all young and still chasin’ the pretty girls, which is great, but if they really want to look stylish and fashionable on the diamond, simply play the game hard and go after the baseball like it was that 25 year old cover girl and save the sparkly trinkets for the dance club.
June 26, 2023 at 7:01 pm #225638I am not real big on the jewelry, but if guys can play wearing it then I accept that. When I played sports I never wanted anything other than the uniform, as I was always aware that I may instinctively move some way and get my hand caught in the chain, or something like that.
I see those chains Mikolas wears and man, I could never do that. But if he can focus and it does not bother him to wear them, so be it.
All the celebration stuff is okay with me. I don’t mind guys doing that. Life is short – you gotta enjoy it while it lasts. And a baseball career is super short – so have fun while you are doing it as it will come and go before you know it.
But as for our team, yeah, tough to watch. I have had a busy Spring and early Summer so far and have missed quite a few games. The one positive thing about that is I have not missed much. Sometimes watching this team is one of those “Well, there is 2 1/2 hours of my life I will never get back” deals.
