As I said in the other thread…..he’s struck out over 100 times in a little over 300 plate appearances. It’s obvious the brass got tired of the strikeouts. He better learn to make some contact before 2023 or who knows what will happen.
For me Gorman was a major disappointment in St. Louis. Whenever he got that second strike on him you knew he was going down on strikes. But there’s a ton of talent there. Fingers crossed that Nolan can put the ball in play more often in 2023. Way too early to give up on this fellow.
Not ready to give up on him but I think this was the right move. Watching him take that at bat Sunday and looking like someone totally unprepared and overmatched. He needs to get himself right.
Not Just a question of if Yepez will hit better than Gorman but also whether Dejong will hit better than Gorman.
The “he’ll be fine” crowd will don the rose colored glasses as soon as he tees off on a couple AAA roster fillers.
There will be hope if we see him shorten up with two strikes, let it get deep and stroke it the other way. There will be no hope if the rips minor league meatballs through the minor league right side defense over and over. That’s what we saw before and we know it doesn’t translate to MLB success.
But I guess there is no time left to figure things out this year.
DeJong is what he is. At just 22 years of age, Gorman has time to improve. He’s not the first very good young player to get knocked around his first time up and he certainly won’t be the last.

Dejong is mentally shot, IMO. I have no doubt that a new situation will temporarily boost his numbers, but within a half year he’ll be back to struggling. It stinks, because we looked to have our shortstop for a while back in 2018.
I like Gorman and I hope he figures it out. At 22 he has time. But I would have sent him down earlier instead of not playing him. Just my opinion. I think they will have to carry DeJong into the post season because the lack of a ss other than Edman. I rather have Edman in short and let Donovan play second.
striking out is not something the players want to do, but they certainly have been doing it anyway. As soon as the Cards could look at the standings and realize that Milwaukee had very little chance of catching them, some kind of spark seemed to go out. The less acclaimed the opposing pitcher, the less they seemed to be able to square up on them. When behind going into the last couple of innings, they try to stir up their enthusiasm and often do put up a good show, but…
Perhaps the west coast trip, maybe with 1 or fewer victories, will wake them up.
