Anthony Rizzo’s replacement… Goldschmidt reportedly wanted multiple years, but didn’t get it. He signed quickly after Christian Walker committed.
First baseman Paul Goldschmidt and the New York Yankees are in agreement on a one-year, $12.5 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Goldschmidt adds a strong veteran bat to deepen the Yankees’ lineup. First on the news was @JackCurryYES.

December 21, 2024 at 12:53 pm #273642He should do OK if he isn’t expected to be a 2-3 hitter carrying the offense.
December 21, 2024 at 1:20 pm #273646Plan B didn’t take long after Walker signed elsewhere.
December 21, 2024 at 1:48 pm #273647Goldy still hit the ball hard last year and was decent as the year went on. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him put up a .270/.350/.450 line in that park with that lineup.
December 21, 2024 at 1:52 pm #273648What is going to happen with Anthony Rizzo?
December 21, 2024 at 2:27 pm #273652Heck, the Yankees have the type of funding that could platoon Goldschmidt and Rizzo as a R/L dual GG at 1B.

Maybe he will last forever.
December 21, 2024 at 3:42 pm #273657Glad Goldy is getting a shot to play another year. I think he is pretty much done and won’t be much help to the Bombers, but then it seems former Cardinals always find new life in New York.

He is a free agent coming off a worse season than Goldschmidt
December 21, 2024 at 5:28 pm #273662I wish Goldy all the best and would like to see him finish up on a high note.
December 21, 2024 at 5:49 pm #273663Goldy will like the lox and bagels in NYC. Outside of a reunion with the Ari or in Colorado. That ballpark is suited for guys like him.
December 21, 2024 at 6:10 pm #273666Maybe he’ll do for the Yankees what Eddie did for the Dodgers. Stranger things have happened.
December 21, 2024 at 11:10 pm #273672Goldy is going to have to get out the razor and shave the stubble. The Yanks don’t go for that.
December 22, 2024 at 10:04 am #273694Still not a finer defensive 1st baseman on the planet. He’ll do great in pinstripes.
December 22, 2024 at 10:48 am #2736961982 willieParticipantI hope he earns another season. I know he wanted multiple, sometimes its best to earn it on the field.
December 23, 2024 at 6:36 pm #273809The Yankees and Red Sox have both done some good things this off season despite the pinstripes losing Soto. Heck, in the long run that might be a blessing. Goldy on a one year deal is perfect for the Bombers.
I think Arenado ends up with one of those two clubs, Boston or the New York Americans.
January 12, 2025 at 1:57 pm #274733Paul Goldschmidt took out this full page ad in today’s St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The former Cardinal and 2022 NL MVP signed with the Yankees as a free agent. pic.twitter.com/vIkcJx1nDo
