#STLCards are among 10 plus teams with interest in RHP Nick Martinez who had a big year with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks (1.60 ERA) and won a silver medal for Team USA in the Olympics. The Cards previously did well signing Miles Mikolas out of Japan.

Martinez seems like the definition of “low hanging fruit,” to me. Maybe he fits that #7 starter role that Goold mentioned in his tweet yesterday.

Give me Garcia plus three Asian imports:Nick Martinez, closer Robert Suarez (who has only walked six guys in the last two seasons), and Korean outfielder Sung Bum Na, who played a full season and showed his knee was sound.
I’ll assume we take kegs of dry powder into the season.

I have no problem signing Martinez to a cheapish short term deal if the Cards think he might be the next Mikolas but if he has a good 2022 please don’t immediately give him a 4 year $64M extension.
