Oh geez Flaherty. Here we go again. I recommend he eat hot dogs and drink beer in the off season.

Its only calf fatigue and a tummy ache. Its early. He’ll be fine.

Wish Bob Gibson was still around to talk to Flaherty about mental and physical toughness.

Maybe he simply cannot take the pressure.

The mind is very powerful and stress can and does make people physically ill.

I think it can also cause other issues.

After 2019 he was expected to be an ace. Maybe it’s just too much for him. Not everyone is cut out to lead.

I think those who have an excessive number of eggs in the Flaherty basket should consider moving a few to an alternative receptacle.

He’s made more money sitting on his ass in a dugout than 98.25% of people will make in their life time.

Gotta be able to take the ball and take your turn.

2023 pretty much has to be his put up or shut up year doesn’t it?

Flaherty is already showing signs that he might not be capable of becoming the dependable #1 that few believe he can be in ’23. His present status is probably making Card fans even more nervous about penciling him as a starter during the season. Its possible that he’ll lose his spot if he goes on the IL early on and if one of the starters-in-waiting can show some solid promise.

Wheels might be beginning to turn in the upstairs office. I seriously believe that the team won’t be heading North with the five pitchers expected to be in the rotation. Wainwright and Mikolas will be away for some time so it might be more difficult to access their ramping up development.

With the setback not being due to arm or shoulder issues, I am not concerned at this point.

Sounds as though he just needs a grapefruit spritzer.

The brine’s no good, Euro. Marmol mentioned the concern that Jack may be thirsty…

He’s high maintenance, that’s for sure. I’m not so sure the coddling is a good idea.

I’d guess there’s an outside chance that it’s been determined that he focus more on routine conditioning until a bit closer to the regular season than for him to work full bore opposing hitters in a competitve game situation.

Ha, pickle juice has been known to turn struggling, invalid tennis players at mid-match into Superman for the final set.

I wasn’t aware of that, Euro. I may give it a try this spring the first time this invalid old guy is struggling during mid-lawnmowing…Haha!

Guys, no worries. With Spring Training, we’re essentially talking about practice here. Not a game — practice.

Seriously, the flu-like symptoms made me think about covid. Sorry about that. I haven’t thought about it in a while, but now wondering if any of those precautions or protocols are still in place, e.g., IL, testing? And does Canada still have restrictions on unvaccinated players going to Toronto like last year? It popped into my mind I guess because it still looks dubious that world #1 tennis player Novak Djokovic will play at Indian Wells and Miami starting in a couple days. The U.S. still has a restriction on foreigners entering the country without vaccination. That’s unfortunate because Indian Wells and Miami are ATP 1000 Masters tournaments, just one level below the Grand Slam tourneys.

It wouldn’t bother me too much if my favorite team lost every practice game in ST’ing, Euro. In fact, it may be a good thing if they did. Law of averages and all…

Euro, Djokovic was denied entry to USA. I haven’t seen anything on whether MLB players might be restricted going to Toronto this year, or vise versa.

I am not sure what the current policy is in Canada but I found this piece of info in an ESPN article regarding Djokovic.

The U.S. is ending its COVID-19 emergency declaration on May 11, which will allow foreign air travelers to enter the country without being vaccinated.

Yep gscott, that’s been the talk in the tennis world the last couple months knowing that Indian Wells and Miami were coming up. Djokovic and the tournaments applied for exemption to the policy since it was ending soon anyway and wanted to gain entry through other means, e.g., a negative test. No dice though. Of course we all remember what happened to the Cards with Toronto last year.
