We won’t be having five gold glove award winners this year, will we?
October 30, 2022 at 10:42 am #205713We will likely have two…Edman and Arenado. Christian Walker is likely the GG winner at 1B.
October 30, 2022 at 12:13 pm #205716GameCard…I wouldn’t say Walker was the likely GG award winner at 1B. He’s yet to win the award in an 8 year career. He may it home, but I think Goldschmidt’s odds are a bit better than Walker’s.
October 30, 2022 at 5:54 pm #205720October 30, 2022 at 5:59 pm #205721I love Goldy but I am a little biased toward Walker. He is a former Gamecock that helped us win the CWS in 2010 & 2011. I am a season ticket holder and his family would often sit in the row in front of us.
October 30, 2022 at 7:18 pm #205723Well, Walker may win this year’s GG, but the fact that he’s this year’s Fielding Bible Award winner doesn’t at all mean he’ll take home a GG. I think Pujols has won 5 Fielding Bible Awards and Arenado 3 or 4. So, the folks and criteria that decide the two awards don’t always correspond and I’m pretty sure the GG comes with a bit more prestige only becuse it’s been around for awhile. At any rate, I watched Goldscmidt at 1B all season long and never saw him miss a beat. With the glove, that is…Haha!
October 30, 2022 at 7:32 pm #205724Walker is getting ready to make some serious money for both his bat and glove.
October 30, 2022 at 8:17 pm #205726The one constant enjoyment I had watching the Cards this year was the infield defense. The offense was inconsistent with too many dead spots in the lineup, but the defense never seemed to falter. Didn’t see Walker much, but if he’s better than Goldy I’m sure the D-back fans really like watching him too.
October 30, 2022 at 8:42 pm #205727I am thinking maybe the best use of Gorman would be as half of a DH platoon. Let him focus on his hitting, and if he hits enough then find him a position. If he doesn’t hit enough, he doesn’t need a position.
October 30, 2022 at 11:09 pm #205729I don’t think Gorman gets a fair shake after only 313 PA’s in the Big Leagues. He’ll still be only 22 on opening day in ’23. I think he’ll prove to be more than a DH. I also think he’ll be a guy who has several 30 HR seasons during his career and it wouldn’t surprise me too much if he eventually taters-up 40 times in a season. Again, he’s only 22. My guess is he’ll amp up his ability to make contact and avoid the K with more looks at Big League pitching.
November 4, 2022 at 5:49 am #206018Gorman as a hitter will be fine. 2B=Donovan SS=Edman
November 4, 2022 at 8:45 am #206022Maybe fine as a platoon hitter. Next year fielders won’t be able to stand where they know he will hit it. That will help.
