Should I assume alot of these articles I see on MSN and Yahoo and various other websites regarding possible trades, signings, interest, comings and goings, comments, etc, etc, are, for the most part, just part of what is labeled Fake News nowadays?
MSN has alot of them. So does Yahoo. I am sure other sites do.

Click bait speculation for the most part. Throwing crap out there and maybe get one right every now and then.
The visiting teams are faring well in this season’s NLDS. Texas now up 2-0 over the O’s and looking for a 3 game sweep. Both the Phillies and Dbacks winning the first game of their respective NLDS with AZ simply destroying Kershaw and the Dodgers in LA and Philly shutting out a loaded Braves team in ATL. The Twins now up 6-0 in Houston and look to be tied with the Astros at 1-1 before heading north to home. At least they’re going home to what’s called Target Field and not to that dreaded Twinkie Dome that we endured in ’87. If I had my way, all four of these NLDS would extend to the full five games. Only in a perfect world. And that ain’t no fake news…Haha!
Yep Dom that old Minny stadium was the worst. I called it the trash bag bowl. I’m going by memory but didn’t Ken Daley give up a grand slam to lose game 6 up there against lefty Kent Hrbek? And I think it was the first hr he gave to a lefty that year. Nightmares
That is a very timely question given the time of the year.
BHC hit the nail on the head. If the author is a name you’ve heard of, there is at least a chance. Still, you have to read carefully.
These articles you reference are typically one of two types:
1) The author pulls ideas out of the air. Then naive people pick it up and repeat it, turning it into rumor speculation. Remember the game “telephone” when you were a kid? What comes out the back end often is different from what started it.
2) The author takes a comment from a credentialed member of the media (who has access to players and teams) and adds their own commentary to it, sometimes blurring the line between legitimate reporting and wild speculation.
My advice is to always go back to the original source and read what it says. Usually that isn’t Yahoo or MSN or Fansided or SI or …, but if these articles are worth anything, they will point back to the original source. MLB Trade Rumors is an example of a site that does this well.
IMO, you are always better off focusing on the sites that have real reporters covering the teams or national sites well connected such as The Athletic, ESPN and USA TODAY.
Yep, I was thinking our old friend Gaetti, but I looked it up and it was Hrbek who touched up Dayley for the GS that effectively put that 6th game out of reach.
The Card’s GM said he would bring in three starters. The Cards aren’t in the play-offs. So what else is there to write about. Writers that cover the Cardinals need to put out print about something so rumors and speculations abound. I find that stories mention the top-notch pitchers that would fit the bill as a #1 guy that the Cards have been without for a long time, and then they back off from those rumors by letting the readers know that the team can’t outbid the large number of big payroll teams also looking for pitching. Its like going for a hook with no bait on it.
That’s what we’ll be getting our stomachs full of for this off-season…. one that may just end in disappointment and disbelief. By now when I see a headline…. I can almost write the damn thing myself. All in all, it makes for some really juicy fodder… or fake news.
I’ve found it best to simply watch what happens on the field and limit any reading and scrutiny of the print to a box score…That way you know who plays where and what they did. Come to think of it, a box score may be the last bastion of entirely reliable and accurate information available from any newspaper or web-site. If there were a box score for everything, the simple truth would always be available to everyone.
From the fake news department, a guy at Bleacher Report lists Goldy as the #3 trade chip in all of MLB. I guarantee that someone is going to turn this into “Goldy is on the block”.
Oddly, Arenado is not mentioned in his top 30. We will have to leave those rumors to someone else.
The rationale behind their thinking on Goldy:
“The St. Louis Cardinals could opt to make one final push with Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado at the center of their offensive attack, or they could move their All-Star first baseman now to open up a spot for young slugger Jordan Walker on the infield.”

I like Walker, but with less than 500 PA’s I’m not sure he yet he qualifies for the title of “young slugger.”
In 2019 at the age of 22 Yordan Alverez tatered up 27 times and collected 78 RBI’s in a little less than 375 PA’s. He also hit .313 and was awarded the AL ROY. I’d say he qualified as a young slugger that season. I’d also say that in 2023 at the age of ’26, he still qualifies for the title of, “young slugger.” Alverez is a genuine nightmare for opposing teams. I think Walker will pan out and be a good player, but he has a long way to go before he frightens Big League pitching and conjures up images of a “young slugger.”
I’d say you’re right, BW, and now that game 3 of the NLCS has started and I have something better to do, I won’t…Haha! But I still say Alverez is a young slugger…
