4 years in the minors as an undrafted free agent. Probably the best stats in the farm system over that period. I’ve seen people call him a AAAA player. How can you label someone like that when they never get a shot above AAA? I would really like to see him get a legitimate shot here, or at least trade him to get a shot somewhere else.

Sorry, can’t get it to lineup correctly. Looks good before I hit submit, lol.

    Basically .298/.374/.461/.834

His Dominican winter league stats suck.

He may get a cup of Joe but this dude isn’t even on the 40.

No, he did not play well in winter ball. Yes, he is on the roster.

I would think Koperniak gets a look in ST. If he plays well he might stick. Maybe he will be this year’s surprise player of the Spring.

What’s more of an indication of his capabilities – 513 PAs in AAA ball in 2024 or 49 PAs in winter ball?

We have discussed Koperniak many times before. Yes he has good numbers and deserves a shot. His main problem is that he hits LH and the Cardinals have about 100 LH OF’s ahead of him.

I think he’ll get a little run this year. Nootbaar is basically certain to miss time at some point, and there are always guys who need days off or are ineffective (the rest of the OF). Unless we stick Donovan out there, it seems they’ll need someone to fill in for times. Koperniak is well situated to be that guy.

Koperniak was added to the 40 man so I think he definitely gets a shot at some point this year despite the LH heavy OF. One of the OFers will get hurt at some point, and I think he would be the man up. I could also see them trying something out if Scott shows he really need more development time of putting Nootbaar in CF and then Koperniak gets the 4th OF spot with Donny in LF.

Koperniak might make up for the Carlson disappointment.

    Koperniak’s 2024 splits are interesting.

    vs. LHP – .333/.418/.539/.956
    vs. RHP – .301./.354/.503/.857

Those are interesting numbers although only 134 PA’s vs LH’s while he had 379 PA’s vs RH’s.

I think Koperniak’s spring will determine if he goes north with the team.

I imagine that would be the case with most left handed hitters, gscottar. I think only about a quarter of professional pitchers are left handed.

He has a chance to make the opening day roster. It may depend on if Mo signs a free agent RH OF or not, and that probably depends on if they trade Arenado or not.

But if Koperniak hits even better against left handed pitching than right handed pitching, shouldn’t that make a difference, gscottar? It’s almost like we would hope a right handed batter would hit.

I am just repeating what Mo and/or some reporters have alluded to which is the Cardinals would look to add a RH bat for the bench if the funds are available. If that happens I am assuming it would be an OF bat but I could be wrong.

Considering the abbreviated draft, Kooerniak might have had higher draft status than Noot.
Now that performance is his only obstacle, Matt seems likely to outshine someone this spring.

Hard to say…I’ve never seen him play….but…if injuries hit guys like Noot once again, yeah, I think he’ll finally get his shot.
