I had to post this even though he was not a Cardinal. This guy really reminded me of my youth just getting into baseball. He was a great player on some great Pirate teams and was scheduled to be inducted into the HOF this year.
For a few years there he was about the best in the game. Still can see that throw he made in the ‘79 All Star game. His career did not “age” all that well, but his peak was great.
I just read this. It just sucks so much. We all have our time i guess but why couldnt he just got a bit more. While forever a cardinal fan, i just couldnt be critical of the pirates like i was some of the other cardinal foes. They were a fun team to watch back in tbe 70s. Him and stargell. May he rest in peace.
Real sad news made worse by the fact that his passing comes less than a month before he was to be enshrined in Cooperstown. And I feel obligated to echo what others have mentioned. When I saw Dave Parker in the early part of his career in the 70’s, he was the precise illustration of a genuine tour de force on a baseball field. No one was better at any facet of the game. For 5 or 6 seasons, “The Cobra” could flat out do everything as well or better than any other baseball player in either league.
