There may be a book on them, ChiTown, but teams (organizations) have a culture of their own. Just like with other types of corporations. And you want to make sure a player is going to fit into that culture.
ST25, FIP is a decent tool and something to take into account for sure, but results are results. Just like projections, I look at them, but how they actually perform are the only thing that matters at the end of the day.
Truth. My gripe is with sites like Fangraphs, which actually base their pitcher values not on actual results but on FIP. It’s an ok predictor but it’s far from the only way to see a guy’s value. In this case, we know that Hudson has a skill (inducing ground balls) that fits well with the defense. It seems odd that they’d ding him for pitching to his team’s strengths.
