I am still holding out hope Yadi will be the bench coach but it will probably be some kind of part time catching analyst or something.

I can imagine a cart with a monitor on it they roll around so Yadi can Zoom coach from home.

Firing Ross surprised me as I thought the Cubs played over their head last year. The coup they got from signing Bellinger certainly helped.

But if you can get Counsell, you do it.

And he’s a former NL MVP who plays CF and is still only 28. If he can avoid injury, there’s no reason to think he won’t get better for the next several seasons. And Counsell takes over a team that got some pretty good SP’ing from the 5 man in ’23. That ain’t good for the team that plays in StL.

He’s not great at that, but Scotty will spin it again somehow, like he made the Dodgers out to be the bad guys with the shoulder. There should be some entertaining sound bites from Boras this winter if everybody isn’t just lined up with dumptrucks full of money for Bellinger like they will be for Montgomery.

I saw a prediction that Bellinger will get a deal through age 39 or 40 and for $250M+. That’s just crazy to me. Like gscottar, I wouldn’t have minded getting Bellinger at all last year but the injury history and the chance that he swings back to being a dud again like he was for a couple of years makes that far too rich for me. I was thinking he’d get more like 5 years and $100M, which is somewhat palatable but still risky.

That might be Borus driven “prediction”.

There’s a lot to be said for living on the lake……..especially if that lake is Lake Michigan. The new cubs skipper and I[I’m presently leasing mine out as I reside in the Madison area)both have homes in Whitefish Bay…..and unfortunately, neither is perched upon the bluffs high above Lake Michigan. Very few come onto the market, as many are passed down within the family. I’m thinking the cubbies were aware of this and dangled a beautiful lakefront property that he would be first in line to purchase, located somewhere between Chicago and Milwaukee, under Counsell’s nose, if he would accept their employment offer. Beautiful homes situated on our great lakes(Lake Erie being somewhat of the exception) are really quite a magnificent lure.

What happens if the Cubs end up with Ohtani? Perish the thought.

McBride, you need to hush! As 1td might say, don’t tempt the gypsies. They can be very evil, lol.
