This is to reiterate the rules of conduct on our forums and clarify what is allowed and encouraged, and what crosses the line as improper on this board when posting a comment specifically regarding the current social environment surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement and kneeling during the national anthem.
Remember, personal opinions on social issues should be kept to yourself. There are a myriad of places on social media to discuss these topics. Our purpose here is to talk Cardinal baseball, and the sport in general.
From the “Board Posting Rules” in the TCN Open Forum:
“Non-Cardinals baseball topics do not belong in the forum and may be deleted or moved without notice. These include, but are not limited to race, politics and religion.”-
Examples of Proper and Improper posts specific to BLM and kneeling:
-
Proper comments – these stay within the discussion rules
:
“While his thoughts on social issues are not always consistent with mine, I will always root for Jack Flaherty as long as he wears the Cardinal uniform.“
“Players should keep their protests away from the playing field.”
“The players have rights as human beings to express their concerns.”
“I am glad MLB and the Cardinals back BLM.”-
Improper comments – these push the focus away from the Cardinals and violates our rules of conduct:
“Anyone kneeling during the anthem is a traitor, and traitors are not welcome on a team I support. I don’t care if the player is Paul DeJong or Pete Kozma – both would be off my team if they kneeled.”
“Players who back BLM receive my full support as it is about time society woke up to the problems it has faced for many years.”
“It is time for the Cardinals to un-retire number 9 that honors Enos Slaughter, as everyone knows he was a racist and fought Jackie Robinson’s entrance into the major leagues.“ -
