Is anybody going to the Winter Warm-up this year? I’m taking my son (10) for the first time. When do they typically release a daily schedule?

7791, I don’t recall any pattern, but I don’t think it will be soon.

New news. No prices for the two are up yet. We will see tomorrow. My guess is Contreras $75 and Walker $40 or $45, but I bet he’d sell out just as fast at $50 or $60.

The St. Louis Cardinals and Cardinals Care, the team’s charitable foundation, are thrilled to announce the addition of newly signed All-Star catcher Willson Contreras and Cardinals top prospect and 2022 Minor League Co-Player of the Year Jordan Walker to the 2023 Winter Warm-Up autograph ticket lineup. Autograph tickets for the added players will go on sale Friday, December 16 at 9 AM CT at cardinals.com/WWU.

Is Gary L. going to do a session from the main stage instead of in a breakout room?

Thanks, Brian. I live 55 miles west but I may come in for his session.

I am prepping audio of 11 interviews from today, but bccran, I hope you didn’t go all the way to St. Louis to see Gary LaRocque. He shared the main tent stage with Izzy and Brad Thompson. Mike Claiborne was also there, but stepped off when Mo showed up. Nice banter among the four but little to no special insight on the minors. It was over in 25 minutes and I didn’t take many notes. Hope they return to the old format in the future.

    Brian –
I was sitting 4 rows right behind you, with a list of questions. It sure was different – and disappointing. No Q and A at all.

I wonder if maybe Mo decided he does not want to deal with totally uncurated questions.

Years back I did have the chance to ask a question of Mo during the Q and A. It was back in the days when Yadi, one of the slowest men in MLB, was leading or close to leading the team in stolen bases. (He was neck and neck with John Jay IIRC.)

I can’t remember the question I asked, but it had to do with whether and what the organization was thinking as far as increasing the use of speed on the basepath as a weapon in the offense’s repertoire. I also can’t remember Mo’s exact response, but basically he evaded by saying something like base stealing is a matter for the field staff to manage.

Mo actually answered most of the questions fans would have asked him during his opening statement, and also took a number of additional questions during the Q&A. He knows that fans wanted/want a more active off season to help go deeper into October.

Another change I wish they hadn’t made – autograph signings weren’t in the main room. They were in side rooms and closed to those who hadn’t bought tickets. I enjoy watching the way players interface with the fans. Whether they just go through the motions or engage in lively interchanges as the fans come up for the signing. It gives you a look into their personalities. They did have live feeds on the huge video screen in the main room, though. Romero was the most disappointing. He had on a skull cap nearly down to his ears and dark sun glasses. Surprised the Cardinals didn’t say something to him.

I saw Romero on the monitors, too. But it was interesting that when he met with us, the stocking cap and glasses were gone. With us he was articulate and engaging. I suggest you listen to his media session. Seems like a good guy so the appearance may be deceiving. (He wasn’t all tatted or anything.)

I agree with bccran. Mo answers everything. He understands folks may not like the answers but he didn’t duck any questions (in his own sessions). The problem was not with LaRocque, either, but the set up and how his session was run. Too much happy talk and little substance. Plus main stage area is too loud and chaotic.

Also, much less seating in front of the main stage. Forced a lot of people to stand during the main presentations and discussions.

    Brian –
Among the younger guys, which ones have you been impressed by? How they they handled themselves during interviews?
