After almost two decades of ownership, the #STLCards are selling their Double-A team, the Springfield Cardinals, to an organization that owns 17 other minor league clubs. Check out my take on the trend across Minor League Baseball. (free) https://t.co/3VHz3bSo7X pic.twitter.com/IlsaxU8xL7

May 2, 2023 at 2:35 pm #218610Is today’s press conference regarding the Springfield sale?
The #STLCards have scheduled a 4 pm CT news conference where team president Bill DeWitt lll is scheduled to make a “special business news announcement.”

Looks like uniform related, probably corporate sponsor patch.
Something for which all fans were waiting breathlessly.
Talk about being unable to read the room.

Insert your favorite punch line here about roster changes…
May 2, 2023 at 3:25 pm #218623#stlcards will reveal an advertisement on their jersey sleeve this afternoon (4 p.m.) at Busch Stadium. The company will look familiar.
It's the same one who appears on #stlblues jerseys.
St. Louis-based wealth management company Stifel will be featured on jerseys, per source.

Investment Bankers. Yeah, that will get your juices flowing.
The tone deafness is staggering.
May 2, 2023 at 3:30 pm #218625Turning baseball players into billboards is repulsive.
May 2, 2023 at 3:33 pm #218627Don’t think of them as players, but as mobile revenue-generators.
May 2, 2023 at 3:37 pm #218628When I was a kid the Stag brewery over in Belleville sponsored my little league team. One year I guess there were complaints about using kids to advertise beer, so after that we were sponsored by a funeral home. That was better I guess.
May 2, 2023 at 3:39 pm #218629“Turning baseball players into billboards is repulsive.”
We agree on that observation.
‘The team is in last place, but look, we give you a corporate advertisement to ease your worries and give you hope for the future”
The obtuse insensitivity is off the charts.
May 2, 2023 at 3:42 pm #218630The mid season dumpster dive better be extra special.
May 2, 2023 at 3:42 pm #218631Revenue generation that will most likely not be spent on the team.
May 2, 2023 at 3:58 pm #218636Maybe Bill will explain to everyone that having strong financial partners like this is what enables Mo and him to promise payroll increases during the offseason amidst season ticket sales & promotions.
May 2, 2023 at 4:26 pm #218639I’m not necessarliy a fan of the concept, but I certainly admire the timing.
May 2, 2023 at 4:48 pm #218643Wonder if anyone asked why not? My guess is that it “could not be moved” because they did not feel the need to do so.
Heading this feedback a lot given the recent circumstances surrounding the team (and I understand). This announcement has been in the works for while & could not be moved. https://t.co/PEFyGRSNyc

May 2, 2023 at 5:00 pm #218646Well of course it could have been moved. They didn’t want to because why would they? It’s not like fans won’t still come to games and that is the only thing they give a bleep about.
May 2, 2023 at 5:10 pm #218648They once moved the day before Kolten Wong Hawaiian jersey night.
May 2, 2023 at 5:46 pm #218651I might just have to find a new wealth manager to keep track of all my stocks and bonds and other wealth stuff.
May 2, 2023 at 6:22 pm #218653The day is not too far off when players uni’s will look like race car drivers. The human billboard style.
May 2, 2023 at 6:58 pm #218660Well the NBA has done this for 2-3 years. They must have regulations on where and how big it can be.
I don’t like it either but this day was coming. We had played a couple team that had them on the uniforms this season iirc.
