Rickey’s final stretch run in StL was not good. It was pretty rich that he called a couple icons (Musial and Groat) too old to be playing before they had stellar seasons, when it was he who was too old to do his job.
Rickey was full of gems.

That summation on Shannon is real strange. Seems like one could easily take an opposite view and say something like: “Very athletic with a strong arm. Already has a sprawling family of five kids, so I look for him to work extra hard given a major league salary will be a big help in his domestic situation.”
