Just having a little fun here…These two former Spanish speaking Cardinal players were fond of both a phrase and a song. One of them often uttered the Spanish phrase, “oohhnebberno.” Who was the former Redbird player who often used the aforementioned Spanish phrase and what does it translate to in English? And according to former LHP’er Steve Kline, this other former Cardinal player often crooned a song in the Redbird dugout during the blistering days of high summer that is normally associated with the holiday season. The Spanish lyrics which are also the title to the song itself include, “ledeatno…ledeatno…ledeatno.” What do these words to the song translate to in English and who was the Cardinal player who enjoyed entertaining his Redbird teammates by singing this song?
I thought about including another former Cardinal Spanish speaking player trivia question, but everyone knows what “Mang” means…
No idea on that one. At first I was thinking maybe Julian Javier and Orlando Cepeda, as Cepeda was a jovial sort who no doubt sang songs. He and Javier were buddies during the time “Cha Cha” was a Cardinal.
But with the Steve Kline reference, it must have been latter day players. Let’s see, maybe Placido Polanco and Albert?
Haha! No, Bikemike, but good guess with Cha Cha. The correct answer to the first one, if there is indeed a correct answer, is Joaquin Andujar and the phrase, “youneverknow.” I tried my best to put my Spanish accent in text…Haha! Unfortunately, I didn’t do a very good job. The “correct answer” to the second one is, Edgar Renteria singing the wonderful holiday song known as, Let it Snow. “Ledeatno…Ledeatno…Ledeatno.” Kline related that story and did his best imitation of Edgar crooning the song during a pregame interview while both he and the former Redbird SS were teammates and the Redbirds were still playing in the purgatory type atmosphere of “old” Busch Memorial Stadium. I’m sure you’re aware that the LHP’ing Kline was quite a character and I still recall the interview and the belly laugh I was afforded from seeing it. He painted a perfect picture of the Columbia, SA born and raised Renteria singing the song in the dugout as his Redbird teammates sweltered in the high summer heat of the old venue…Haha! I’d better stop before I get in trouble with our good friend, BW…
