Batting ave. .277, Home Runs 20, RBIs 67, OPS .774. He and Winn have been tremendous developmental bright spots in this lukewarm season for the team. Now, Gorman and Walker need to follow suit. And it sure would be be nice if some young starting pitchers like Hence and Matthews can develop like Burleson and Winn have as hitters in the near future.
I applaud Burly, he has over achieved. It is concerning, though, that the team is leaning on a platoon player with defensive limitations. But its what we’ve got. Last night’s lineup illustrates how the fantasy ball mindset is running things. Pack as many supposed statistical probability plays into the lineup as you can fit in there. You’ve got 26 spread sheets, I mean players. A spreadsheet doesn’t need continuity, its zeros and ones.
Burleson is a mediocre player on a mediocre team. Amazing how low our standards have slipped as an organization.
How mediocre? Well, I’m glad you asked!
His .766 WAR is #57 in baseball. Wow! We are so lucky to have the 57th best all around hitter in the game!
He has 187 Total Bases! WOW! That’s good for 49th in baseball!
At least his 67 RBI is good for 30th! And his 20 HR is right there at #29.
My fav stat…Alec has 15 doubles this season! That’s the 150th best total in baseball!
On a good team he’s a part-time DH and platoon player only. But on this team, we have posters waxing poetic in regard to his mediocre hitting abilities.
Oh well, this team is no longer among the elites in baseball, so I might as well jump in the bandwagon and go get my XXXL Alec Burleson jersey!
He struggles badly against lefties and is an average at best defender. That is fine for your 4th outfielder – not for your #1.
I like him and I’m glad he’s on the team but the only reason he is ‘shining’ for the Cardinals is because the team is so mediocre.
OP – for the love of God, please do not start another Burleson thread. At this point you are simply trolling this forum.
In Hollywood terms, Burleson is a Supporting Actor – not the star of the movie.
CC, that could be the case. But there’s more to the post than me touting Burleson. ex. the underachievement of highly touted players, Gorman and Walker. Also, the dire need for some starting pitchers to develop into top of the rotation types. Which, hopefully, Hence and Matthews can and will be. I tried to illustrate how Winn and Burleson have set a fine example of what can be done.

How exactly did you “illustrate” anything in regards to Winn? You mentioned his name. In passing.
The thread title literally screams that it’s about Alec Burleson and you pimping his mediocre accomplishments on a mediocre baseball team.
Would not an “illustration” include some data points, factual information, and/or a comparison or two?
Here…I will demonstrate how it’s done:

The Cards rookie has played outstanding defense, which was expected. Highlight throws on a near nightly basis. But the shocker, to many, has been the offensive production at the top of the lineup!
Winn currently has a slash line of .273/.324/.408/.731. His speed has helped him to 21 doubles and 4 triples! The 21 doubles in second on the team and the triples lead the way! Additionally, his 10 stolen bases are second on the team.
Maybe most impressive is his 3.6 WAR which leads the team by a wide margin! Keep in mind…Winn is a 22 year-old rookie who should only get better!”
NOW…THAT is how you “illustrate” a player’s accomplishments.

Again to those complaining, why do you keep commenting, then? Repetitious threads would quickly die if ignored. We all know they are going to be started regularly. So you keep feeding them and the rest of us have to read the same stuff over and over.
Brian, I can’t understand it either. That is the obvious solution, yet some posters keep taking the bait and entering circular conversations over and over.

The problem With your approach is that if we ignore his threads, he simply keeps responding to himself. Note, he was the first one to respond to this thread when it did not gain the attention he so desperately craves.
But you’re right…I figured that if I used factual data, logic, and common sense that Mr Shady would see the error of his ways and stop spamming the board.
I was wrong. He will never stop. He is doggedly determined to stick to his guns no matter which facts are laid out in front of him…you know…kind of like an OJ Simpson juror.
AdM, you are simply a frustrated anti-Burly fan. His development and production this season has made you look like a fool for degrading him in the past. Often in a nasty manner.
