The Colorado Rockies have fired manager Bud Black. They currently have the worst record in baseball at 7-33. They are on pace for a history making 30-132 record.

The Rockies are interesting in that unlike the Pirates, they are actually trying and do spend money. They just are so inept they have no idea what they are dong and make horrible decisions. It is definitely a harder set of conditions playing in Coors, but they need a full reset of leadership in their org.
Yep, you guys said it. Bud Black is a good manager, and he has shown that with the Padres and Rockies when he has something to work with.
The Rockies issues are really due to an inept organization from ownership on down. They remind me some of the Philadelphia Athletics after WWII, when Connie Mack still managed the ream desperate approaching and reaching 80 years old, and he had his sons running the front office. His sons were incompetent, and nepotism ran the organization into the ground.
The Rockies need a total front office overhaul. They showed how bad they are when they traded Nolan Arenado for payroll relief, then went out and signed Kris Bryant to a big contract. At the time I remember thinking how I would take Arenado way before Bryant, who you could see was trending downward and had injury issues. But the Rockies were too dumb to see that.
The Pirates have worn down and ground up a good manager. It has to feel hopeless managing that team year after year – and it showed.
Colorado has stunk for years.
I don’t follow those organizations all that closely but the feeling I get it that the Pirates are poor and simply cannot afford a good team nor to pay to keep the good players they develop.
The Rockies seem like a complete disaster at the top. They will spend some money but they always mess it up.
Just my impressions…
No MLB team is poor. They receive millions upon millions in revenue sharing even if no one comes to the ballpark. The Pirates choose to take the profits and not reinvest adequately in the team.

The above information regarding the Pirates is shameful and is what LACard has been saying all along about the owners who cry poor.
As for the Rockies they are the worst run team in the NL. They spend some money but it is jsut wasted because they don’t know what they are doing. It is a shame because they seem to have a very large and potentially active fan base just waiting for something to cheer for.
We fans sometimes forget baseball is a business. And if some owners discover they can put out a poor product and still rake in millions to add to their wealth, well, I guess that’s business ain’t it?
Pirates and A’s seem to be the traditional owners just trying to make a profit and not caring about the product on the field. The Cubs are probably in the same boat for a bit different reasons. I’m not sure that applies to all teams though. As I’ve said before, it wouldn’t surprise me if many were break even or even lost a little in operating profit every year. I don’t feel one iota amount of sympathy though because the market value of owning a team continues to skyrocket so they are making tons of money even if they’re not making money (if that makes sense).
The Ricketts are fallowing the Cardinal ownership playbook with regards to just staying competitive. Rickettsville as called by some Cubs fans is a success but the hardcore Cubs fans hate it.My best friend since age 6 is a season ticket holder. He hates the Ricketts.The Cubs have the greatest marketing tool in baseball. They just have to tread water and they’ll get 3 million in the seats and more in the rooftops when it gets warm.
