The Tigers were absolutely hideous in the years leading up to Leyland’s arrival in 2006. In 2005 they won 71 games under Trammell.
The Tigers might have beaten us in 2006 if their relief pitchers had not committed two crucial errors, I think in games 3 and 4 or 3 and 5. These were not hard hit balls.Beltre and helton I kind of agree with. mauer I don’t, not on first ballot. He only caught a little over 900 games and was rather pedestrian the back half of his career. Andrew Jones should get in if he’s in. I also think Sheffield should have made it. He looked like a hall of famer his whole career unlike some. One thing about Mauer getting in, if Molina who caught his whole career doesn’t get in, well then it’s just time to end the whole thing.
Forgot to mention that Matt Holliday only received 1% of the vote so is off the ballot in the future.
Beltran has been tainted by his role in the Astros cheating. It cost him the Mets managerial job and certainly some HOF votes, too. Still, he improved his showing to 57.1% in his second year. In a few years, he will get in, it appears.
