Thank you, GameCard. I’m surprised this thread didn’t generate more action. Burly sure has far exceeded others in the system that were ranked higher on the prospect charts. Look for even larger things out of Burly in ’26.
Silver sluggers don’t have too high a bar for guys who don’t have a regular spot in the field, it seems. Hopefully Burly can build into a bigger 2026, although I’d be fine if the Cards sold high on him.
Burly is definitely feeling more comfortable at the dish with each of his first 3 seasons. His BA, OBP, OPS, OPS+, SLG……..all trending in the favorable direction. One definitely has to be bullish on his future.
During the ’24 season he went on a hitting rampage that covered roughly 3 weeks before his bat began to cool off. If he can come even somewhat close to similar results in a reasonably consistent manner he’ll belong in the category of an elite hitter. Same as it ever was for any and all hitters.
Yes, who would have imagined 3 years ago that in a few years, Burly would have 10 times the value as Gorman or Walker? Well, maybe 10 times more than Gorman and only twice that of Walker, as there’s still hope for him.
The knock on Burly was his bat was unplayable vs LHP. That was not the case this year. Now the issue is playing him around an $85 Million contract. If the Herrera catching experiment this springworks, then Burly, Herrera and Contreras could all play everyday. That could be a decent MOTO if they have good years. Now if someone can emerge as a high OBP leadoff, with some wheels, that could be a functional lineup. Egad, i better ask Santa for a selfie stick.
Burly has gotten better as he has gotten the reps. His defense seemed improved as well, at least from the “eye test” in watching a lot of games.
And he seems like a good guy – a teammate who you like to have around. Let’s hope he keeps taking forward steps and is a force in the lineup.
If he survives the hoped for decluttering of the roster, maybe he will get a chance to be an everyday player with an everyday spot. I’d like to see what he could do with that.

Agree. But I want to acknowledge that there are some posters who say that Burleson can’t play defense anywhere on the field. So be it.
I’d be fine with Burleson in LF, and Herrera at 1B for as long as it makes sense. That is to say, until either a better option forces his way onto the scene, or until Burleson and/or Herrera get too pricey.
The news about Burley makes me smile. He has earned his place in the lineup and I look forward to watching him work in 2026.
