It might be interesting to look at the compensation depressed FA market to see whom they might pick up that would be a Brad Miller type, but for the outfield. Who would do a decent enough job at #4/#5 outfielder, and might even step into a starting role if there are injuries (or if the younger players fall short). Someone they could pick up for a reasonable price on a 1-3 year contract. Not necessarily a star, just a solid, productive player both at the plate and in the field.
Here’s the list, from ESPN FA tracker –
Jackie Bradley, Jr. – 30 years old
Ryan Braun – 36
Rusney Castillo – 33
Yoenis Cespedes – 35
Shin-Soo Choo – 38
Charlie Culberson – 31
Jarrod Dyson – 36
Adam Eaton – 31
Brett Gardner – 37
Robbie Grossman – 31
Billy Hamilton – 30
Jon Jay – 35
Matt Kemp – 36
Jake Marisnick – 29
Nick Markakis – 36
Cameron Maybin – 33
Thomas Milone – 25
Marcell Ozuna – 30
Joc Pederson 28
Kevin Pillar – 31
Jurickson Profar – 27
Cesar Puello – 29
Yasiel Puig – 29
Josh Riddick – 33
Domingo Santana – 28
Steven Sousa Jr. – 31
George Springer – 31
Michael Taylor – 34
Yasmany Tomas – 30
Based on our limited dollars available the names on the list I would go after would be:
Pederson
Profar
Markakis
Pillar
Eaton
Of course there might be some others available via trade. Stl25 and JJ have a done a nice job zeroing in on the Mets, who might be a good trade match with us. David Peralta of the Dbacks would be another good option.
