I’ve never thought of Nootbar as the sort of baseball player that would provide anything more than a marginal type of impact. I’d say he’s average at best and I’m not at all sure he’ll ever be an everyday player. But he does look a whole lot like a young Wayne Nooten.

There has never been a time this season that i thought this was a 90 win team. Crazier things have happened but 84 seems closer to reality though if they came in with less i wouldnt be surprised.

I too was never as big on nootbar as others. Hes had some good moments but you could stick the bat boy out there and at some point they would have a big hit.

Noot has surprised me with his power at times. Looked to be a pretty good all around player, but has regressed some. The injuries have probably contributed to that.

He seems like a great teammate though – always rooting for his fellow Cardinals.

When Noot came up, sort of out of nowhere, he struck me as a high energy player who added some character. I thought his skills were enough to make him an everyday outfielder and I thought he could carry enough OBP to bat above the RBI guys. None of that has panned out. The skills have slid and IL stints have racked up. He seems to be the life of the party when things are going good and disappears when things are going bad.

Maybe things will go better for him next year. If there is a next year.

Ideally, your corner guys would have more pop in their bat, but he’s not good enough in CF to be the regular there. Still, not bad for an eighth-rounder. (Donovan was seventh that year.)

Looking at our remaining 18 games in August, we will be fortunate to go 9 and 9.

We have three against the Dodgers, three against Milwaukee, four versus the Padres and two against the Yankees.

The other six are split between the Reds and Twins, both series on the road.

    It could be ugly.

Thinking about post season, here is a concept that might be cool.

Make it so only the three division winners automatically get in. But, any non-division winner that has a better record than a division winner gets to play that team in a best of five series.

If no second or lower place teams have better records than the division winners, the team with the best record gets a first round bye and the other two teams play a best of five.

Too much uncertainty and potential complications to be implemented, but it could make for some wild post seasons in some years.

They would never do that playoff format because of the money lost. Each League would have as many as three fewer and always at least two fewer playoff teams.

Agree with you that the upcoming schedule looks rough.

The operative word for MLB is always “MORE,” never “LESS,” Unfortunately.

Yes, that idea is not something that would be realistic, but it is fun concept. It is more ethical if you will, as you can keep the divisional format but if your record is deserving you can get to the post season. If you’re not as good as any of the division winners, then wait ‘til next year.

Looking at last year’s AL, it would have been quite a tourney. Four teams had better records than the Central champion Twins. Here is how it played out:

    East champion Orioles 101 wins
    Central champion Twins 87 wins
West champion Astros 90 wins (tie breaker over Rangers)

Other qualifiers under Bike Mike’s Fall Madness plan:

    Rays 99 wins
    Rangers 90 wins
    Blue Jays 89 wins
    Mariners 88 wins

With all of these teams you would do a round robin of single games this way:

    Mariners vs Twins
    Winner plays Blue Jays
    Winner plays Rangers

Finally that winner advances to next round of “final four” versus Rays, with the Orioles and Astros playing in the other series. As I mentioned, it could get crazy. Then in others years it might only be the three division winners in post season.

Not realistic at all except in computer leagues, but kind of a fun concept as you could have all sorts of potential scenarios coming down as teams play in late September.

I screwed up with my 90 wiin prediction as I was thinking that was 9 games over .500 not 18 games over .500. Now I think 9 games over .500 is a long shot.

A reality check. But for the more optimistic, there haven’t always been three wild cards. So, there’s that…
