Leo Bernal, VSII and Cesar Prieto are all participating in the Dominican Winter League this year. I saw Leo Bernal hit a home run in the opening game for the Estrellas Orientales. I’m completely unfamiliar with Dominican winter ball but knowing that a lockout is looming, I’m trying to soak up as much offseason baseball as I can.
What’s the competition like in the Dominican Winter League? I’ve seen a handful of participants referred to as a “former prospect” so I’m assuming it’s a mixed bag. Is it worth reading into any of the stats our guys put up over there? I haven’t seen much discussion of the league on TCN.
