Hence with 2.1 innings tonight. Not a great start with 3 hits and 2 walks, but the main thing is just seeing him pitch. 42 pitches with only 21 strikes

I should be at the AA game in Springfield tonight if anyone wants to meet and say hello. I don’t post nearly as much as I used to but I am one of the longest tenured folks on here. Back when it was FanHome, it used to show the exact date you joined on your profile. I think Brian’s account started in Mid October 2002 and mine was the end of October that same month. From what I gathered after joining, it hadn’t been too long since they had moved from Dickie Thon forum so if you posted on that then you have Brian and I beat. Anyway, if you want to meet the world famous MrPerkins, shoot a message in here and maybe I’ll see you at Hammonds.

Ha, good old FanHome. Back when you rubbed two sticks together to use the internet.

Note on the Player of the Day, Rainiel Rodriguez. First four innings: struck out twice, permitted a stolen base, and committed catcher’s interference. Next five innings: two doubles, a single, and a sac fly. And two runners gunned down. Now that’s a full day.

No reason to rush the 18-year-old, but I’m sure looking forward to his full-season A-Ball debut. Just wish the club would give him some playing time at another position once in a while, like the hot corner for example. As others have mentioned, this franchise has an overabundance of top backstop prospects and a shortage nearly everywhere else.

Hello Mr. Perkins (and Bob Reed)!

I was trying to remember where we were before Fanhome. Wasn’t there a site before Dickie Thon? Gad, it’s been a lot of years!

McGreevy with another great start tonight. For the month of May, he has pitched 27.2 innings with 4 ER for an ERA of 1.30. 34 Ks to 5 BBs for a 11.0 K/9 and 1.6 BB/9.

McGreevy has been ready and is clearly ready at this point. The team needs to do whatever it takes to make a spot for him. There is no point in wasting his innings in AAA anymore. I don’t care if it means trading Fedde for bag of peanuts, get McGreevy a spot in the rotation if you are really committed to building for the future.

Glad to see that Ryan Fernandez had a good outing tonight for Memphis. Last year it looked he he made it look like we got him only because Boston didn’t protect him. And he pitched well enough for the Cardinals in 2024 to strengthen their bullpen. This year he’s been struggling. Hopefully, he’s on his way to regaining the from he had in 2024.

Also, I noticed that Riley O’Brien has been having a good year so far.

Also, there’s no obvious replacement for Matz in 2026, unless they want to break Rom into the majors by working him out of the bullpen next year.

With Matz gone, and Fedde likely gone, and if Maton wants too much
money, and if Helsely asks for more money than the Cardinals are willing to pay, the last four months of 2025 for the minors and, 2026 spring training in 2026 ought to be interesting.

I’ve been watching Quinn Matthews pitch tonight for Memphis in his first game back there and thus far he looks real sharp. Fastball and Changeup both are working well.

Right after I posted, he gives up a single and 2 walks along with a strikeout. Then a sac fly gets a run home. Then a double down the 3rd base line scores another. He’s gotten a little wild here in the 3rd. He only had 2 starts prior in his rehab for like 2 innings and 3 innings of work. Taking him out of the game now. He doesn’t seem too happy to be exiting but probably better to ease him back in slowly given the shoulder issues.

I have pushed for Andre Granillo being a high rated prospect for several years now because I thought by this season he’d be in the back of the Cardinals bullpen. He’s not yet. But at Memphis he now has an ERA of 1.35 in 27 innings. 42 strikeouts in those 27 innings. And just 7 walks and 15 hits allowed. He should be on the major league roster soon. He’s pitched 2 more scoreless innings tonight.

Ixan Henderson now has 9 starts in Double-A.
Last year Quinn Mathews made 9 starts there.

    Let’s compare.
    Henderson has allowed 38 hits in 48 innings, with a 56-to-16 K/BB ratio, 2 homers, and a 2.27 ERA.
    Mathews permitted 35 knocks across 52 frames, with a 70-to-15 K/BB, and 3 homers, with a 2.41 ERA.

Ixan has allowed a .276 slugging %. Mathews was .277.
Henderson has required 15.5 pitches per inning, and Mathews 16.0.

Henderson is a few months younger now than Mathews was last year at Springfield. They both dominated in Low-A and High-A. They both throw with the wrong hand.

I couldn’t tell you how dazzling Henderson’s heater is, or what’s his best offspeed offering. And I don’t think for a moment that he’s truly equivalent to Mathews as a prospect. But I do think Ixan is a very real prospect, and among Redbird farmhands he should be considered a viable future rotation candidate more than anyone not named McGreevy, Mathews, or Hence.

Couldn’t agree more about Granillo. I don’t understand the lack of fanfare for him, but he’s ready!

Bob Reed – Roby is requesting to be on that list, he’s not far from Ixan and Mathews, most importantly he has stayed off the IL, fingers crossed.

Bob, I agree with about Ixan Henderson that he has to be opening an eye that he is at least enough of a SP prospect to have a change at being a #5 SP. Henderson seems to be a much more deceptive lefty than just pure stuff. He is more of a sinker focused guy only throwing 91-92, but his breaking balls do get quite good swing and miss. I don’t think Ixan has top of the rotation stuff, but he looks like he could be a valuable #4/5 type.

Also agree on Granillo as no reason he shouldn’t be in the bigs yet.

The AAA Redbirds continue to amaze. They are six games over .500 and an opening day rotation that has put two of them on the long-term IL – (Hence-Robberse). Mathews went down and that leaves them with McGreevy. The rest of the starts went to Cornwell-CTaylor and several reliever fill-ins. Not the type of guys that will progress enough for MLB.

Rom is slowly coming back and Mathews will sloooowly come back. I’d like to see at least one starter from AA Springfield that can use the AAA experience.

Granilo has always had control issues, so maybe they just want the sample size to get high enough since this is his first time doing it.

The top 6 in the MLB bullpen is rather elite this year. It’s just those 7-8 spots that are having a rough time.
