Well that is unexpected. Now let’s see the same news for Mathews in a week about shoulder surgery.

I really don’t know why these guys defer the surgery because every single case they end up needing it. Instead of being ready maybe end of this year if Hjerpe gets the surgery last summer, he is now looking at mid 26 for a return.

Tink now Hjerpe… could have been a big development year for both.

Could this make them covet a pitcher in the 1st round now?

I think this is evidence of why you don’t covet a pitcher in the 1st round ever. TINSTAAPP (there is no such thing as a pitching prospect). Injury rates are way too high to take a pitcher 1st round. Instead target them mid rounds as those guys turn out good with development quite often and draft star potential bats in the 1st/2nd round

Yep. While occasionally it works out that they can get some extra years of relative health by doing the less invasive procedure, more often than not it just harpoons multiple seasons in the future. The elbow isn’t as bad an injury as the shoulder, but we shouldn’t expect anything from any of these guys (Mathews, Hjerpe, Hence).

Brian’s article about the pitching prospect status is interesting. So many health problems so far from the top group of prospects. Maybe at least 1 or 2 can become impact big leaguers.

TCN player of the day tomorrow Josh Kross hit for the cycle at Palm Beach tonight. 4th HR of the year already for him.

Honeyman was also 3 for 3 with 2 walks in that game as well.

Wetherholt with a good game so far. 2 for 3 with a walk and his 1st AA HR. Ixan with a good start as well. 7 Ks to 1 BB with 1 run allowed in 5 innings pitched.

I sent that and Wetherholt with a line drive double in his next PA. He has really been heating up. I love his approach of spraying the ball all over the field with line drives.

Making the trek to Peoria possibly tomorrow. Weather is suspect and might be windy.

Those pitching injuries are really worrisome. Especially on the heels
of the injuries to the young pitchers we got in deadline trades several years ago.

Anyone with twitter see anything about why Wetherholt was pinch hit for in the 1st? Fingers crossed he is not injured.

Thanks Jnevel that is good to hear it is precautionary. Hoping to see Wetherholt back in the lineup for one of the Springfield games today then.

Looking at the AAA stats it seems Quinn Mathews is rapidly becoming Rick Ankiel.

McGreevy with a good start for Memphis today. Hoping to see him in the MLB rotation to start May in Mikolas’s spot.
