It is that time again when “finalists” are announced in advance of major awards. In reality, they already know the top finisher by position, but they make us wait to learn who they are.

For the NL Gold Glove Awards, the Cardinals have three “finalists” – Masyn Winn at short, Nolan Arenado at third and Brendan Donovan at utility.

FWIW, there is some internet buzzing about Michael Siani not being included. Like it or not, his subpar offense probably hurt his chances with some voters.

The winners will be announced on Sunday, November 3. The schedule for the BBWAA awards has not yet been announced, but they will be spread over the first half of November.

I usually don’t give much thought on this stuff but the Siani snub is definitely on brand with how they usually do these things.

Does Arenado actually have a chance to regain the Gold Glove?

Pete Crow Armstrong has a bigger case to be in the final 3 than Siani.

I’d say yes, but only because Ozuna was awarded a GG in ’17.

Just read where Jackson Merrill won the ROY award over Paul Skenes.

Haven’t seen that verified anywhere else yet.

There’s a decent chance that Arenado stays tied with Mike Schmidt for most NL GG’s at 3B. Rolen’s still by far the best Cardinal 3B’man I’ve ever seen play, but Boyer was just a minute or two before my time. And I don’t guess anyone in either league will ever catch Robinson. Winn looked like he’s in line for a a shiny mitt or two at SS in the not too distant future and obviously Siani looked good in OF, but I don’t think he’ll be manned up out there as the everyday Cardinal CF’er.

Goldschmidt leaving could hurt Winn’s chances.

Also, the Toronto Blue Jays and Milwaukee Brewers were the 2024 Gold Glove Team Award winners based on their SABR Defensive Index rankings.

As expected, the Cardinals have no “finalists” for Rookie of the Year, MLB, Cy Young or Manager of the Year.

The awards will be announced as follows:

Nov. 18: Rookie of the Year
Nov. 19: Manager of the Year
    Nov. 20: Cy Young
    Nov. 21: MVP

Two Rockies get gold, and McMahon is really good with the leather as well and might get one at some point.

Ya mean Masyn Winn wasn’t a finalist for ROY?

I guess he will just have to start swinging harder and try to slug more homeruns.

    NOT!!!!

Winn had a great year, but there were a clear top 3 NL rookies this year. Paul Skenes, Jackson Merrill, and Jackson Chourio were all outstanding rookies. I think Winn had more of a chance in a normal year, but those 3 guys look like future MLB stars.

I wasn’t aware of this until just now, but the first NL Fireman of the Year Award winner was Cardinal reliever Lindy McDaniel in 1960. No Cardinal won the award again until Al Hrabosky took it home in 1975. Bruce Sutter won it 3 times while working in a Redbird uniform in 1981, 1982 and 1984.

Award winning reliever should bring a little better return when he is inevitably traded.

Paul Skenes wins NL Rookie of the Year.

I would have went with Merrill from the Padres.
