April 12, 2024 at 9:15 am #247637It was too bad for Palm Beach that Augusto Calderon came on in the 9th and gave up 3 runs on 2 homers getting just one out. I really thought the Cards would cut him in Spring Training. This is now his 6th season. He’s still in Low A. And he’s only had 1 good season – and that was 3 years ago as an older Dominican player. He’s 23 and will turn 24 just after the season is finished. He seems like an easy cut.

April 12, 2024 at 7:02 pm #247676Minor league pitching doing really well again tonight (so far).
Mathews with 5 innings, no runs, 1 hit, and 11 strikeouts. Great job.
Graceffo had 5 scoreless innings as well with 7 strikeouts.
Hence with 5 innings, 1 run, and 8 strikeouts. His season ERA is under 1.00 in 2 starts. But he’s still never gone above 5 innings pitched in his career.
Hjerpe was the only bad performance. After going just 2/3 of an inning last time he went 3 innings this time out. But 3 runs on 8 hits. Definitely something not right with him. Note that Hjerpe did well after he got it together at the end of the first but he was terrible up to that point.
Lots of double headers today.
April 12, 2024 at 7:23 pm #247677Team ERA’s going into today:
Memphis – 5.31 (14 of 20) (note that Josh James’ ERA is over 50 so that’s weighing this down a lot).
Springfield – 2.54 (2nd of 10)
Peoria – 3.56 (9th out of 12)
Palm Beach – 3.13 (3rd of 10)
All of these do far will get better with today’s games. Memphis allowed 0 runs in game 1 and Springfield allowed just 1 run in their first game. And Palm Beach has allowed 0 through 7 innings so far.
April 12, 2024 at 8:58 pm #247702My optimism is that Chase Davis now has 6 XBH in 7 games (2 HR, 4 2B). Hopefully, he can keep it up and get a promotion to Peoria in May.
April 12, 2024 at 10:51 pm #2477616 good games tonight where we pitched well. And one bad one where Memphis lost 9-0. I watched some of that one. Kloffenstein didn’t look very sharp.

stlcard25ParticipantSpringfield has such a good rotation. I know that guys will move up, but if they kept the gang together, you’d have to give them a pretty solid shot of winning a Texas League title.
April 13, 2024 at 8:27 am #247798On Friday, the #stlcards system went 6-1 as Sgf and Peo swept twin bills. PB RHS Quinn Mathews earned his first career win with 5 scoreless 1-hit innings with 11 Ks. April 13, 2024 at 8:38 am #247799William Sullivan’s name seems to pop up in the highlights.
April 13, 2024 at 9:03 pm #247874With 1 inning to go in Peoria tonight, our 4 minor league teams have allowed a collective total of just 8 runs tonight. Another good day for our minor’s pitching.

stlcard25ParticipantNice to see some solid system days this year. It’s been a while since we could expect a better than .500 record in any given day. Springfield is on fire while the other three are all solid. If the pitching at Memphis tightens up a bit, it may look really good overall.
