McGreevey with a complete game (7 inning version due to double header) allowing 2 hits and 1 run tonight.
Impressive for McGreevy. He actually gave up the two hits (a double and a single) and a run in his first third of an inning, then had an error behind him. Then he set down the next 20 in a row, half by K. He threw 85 pitches overall. Quite the game.

Rincon threw his 12th Quality Start last night at Peoria. He’s started 24 games and half of them went into that bucket. Note that these guys have pitch limitations on their first 3-4 starts. Pretty impressive for a 22 year old at High A. With some better CF defense from Cho last night, he might have had a shutout (FYI Cho should not be a Center Fielder).
Note that the 23 (almost 24 year old) Quinn Mathews has 13 Quality Starts to lead the Cardinals system. He’s on everyone’s radar and deservedly so. You won’t find Rincon ranked anywhere.
Mathews will be in the majors sometime next season, while in 2025, Rincon will be hoping to reach Double-A after three years in Class-A. There are plenty of comparative measures other than QS. For example, Rincon has yet to post a FIP under 4.00 in A-ball while Mathews has been 2.5 or less at every stop. Mathews fans 12 per nine while Rincon scrapes to fan seven, etc. Rincon has done well, but he has been in the system since 2019 so his runway is getting short. He was already exposed in Rule 5 last winter and wasn’t taken. He won’t be protected on the 40-man this year, either. That wouldn’t happen with Mathews, even if he will not have already reached the majors before the time he becomes R5 eligible.
I know. The Mathews comparison was absurd. I was just trying to highlight the success and consistency that Rincon is providing and the fact that he’s never on anyone’s prospect list even though he’s still very young and excelling.
He’s also fun to watch. Certainly one of my favorites.
I remember the same talk about Graceffo after the did well in Springfield a couple years ago. He’ll be in St. Louis, etc. . . But then AAA happened and everyone sobered up.
bling, as you yourself pointed out in another thread, Graceffo injured his shoulder last season, shortly after joining Memphis. IMO, that mattered more than the step from Double-A to Triple-A. Yes, injuries can be sobering, but don’t make it sound like he couldn’t handle the competition and fans were wrong about being excited about his potential.
It was only one game so far, but Graceffo did ok in his St. Louis debut.
As has been pointed out before, if you assume every prospect will fail, you will be right more often than wrong. Good for you. Keep taking your bows for your predictive powers when anyone stumbles. But it must be a miserable place to be.

I’m not too concerned about 2 sub par starts for Mathews in AAA. He had a couple of bad ones in AA at first as well, and showed he knew what adjustments to make and excelled afterwards. Mathews was pitching at Stanford a little over a year ago and has rightfully been blazing through the system. I’m glad to see him at least get exposed to AAA now to make some adjustments the rest of the year and know what to work on this off-season.

Palm Beach wins 23-8 in their final regular season game. They were up 15-0 at one point. They start their postseason on Tuesday.
Peoria also had a big day for their final season game with an 11-0 win. They however did not qualify for the playoffs. Their pitching was pretty good all year, but the hitting was typically poor – today a clear exception.
Springfield will be done in a week I believe and they will also be playoff bound after winning the division in the first half. Memphis still has a little way to go but they aren’t going to the postseason as they’ve been around .500 throughout.
Who was it got bumped way ahead to AAA to get a few more reps once everybody else closed up? Last year I think, maybe two.
