Cubs had a 6-0 lead on Atlanta last night and lost 7-6. Suzuki’s fielding error on a flyball in the 8th inning was the key play in the game.

    Reds won.
    DBacks won.
    Miami rained out.
    Cards won.

Here’s a link where you can see Suzuki mis-play the flyball to RF with two outs. Brutal. He made Jordan Walker look like Jim Edmonds.

I hope Front Row Amy is in attendance again tonight. She was in rare form last night. And just think posters – we only have a few more days of sharing din-din during the 2023 season.

Din-din today was my weekly trip to the Gasthof, the Amish restaurant. Then afterwards a cigar out on the front porch area. And a stroke of luck – the hot FedEx gal showed up and asked me to help her with a problem. She wants to find a buggy for her pony. I told her I would try.

And tonight is also the last late game from the west coast to watch this season. The Padres are at the Giants. Except Texas is at Seattle tomorrow night but I might not watch that one.

About time to pull the curtain on 2023. We better enjoy the last few games.

p.s. here’s to the Cubs dropping more flyballs.

I might have put the lineup on the wrong thread earlier.

    2B Tommy Edman S
    RF J. Walker R
    1B Luken Baker R
    DH Juan Yepez R
    CF L. Nootbaar L
    C Ivan Herrera R
    3B J. Querecuto S
    LF R. Palacios L
    SS Masyn Winn R

Now Winn has 5 sacrifices, bunts and flies, on the yer. That puts him 3rd on the team behind only Arenado and Edman, and he has a frction of the PAs. That makes him my favorite.

Front Row Amy in attendance again tonight. Dressed in blue. Looking elegant. I bet Pugs is about ready to make his move towards the front row!

Reds just lost to Cleveland. 4-3 the final.

Miami lost Game #1 to the Mets 11-2. They are tied 2-2 in the 5th in Game #2.

Cubs lead the Braves 3-1 in the 7th at Fulton County Stadium. The Braves need to hit some more flyballs to Suzuki in RF.

Man, what a crazy inning. Our third baseman does not have his head in the game and it results in a throwing error on Palacios – but the kid at third caused the error. Then Herrera apparently thinks a throw home is a force out and does not apply the tag!!

Sheesh – we simply gave away a run, and possibly more. I have heard stories about the ‘62 Mets that sounded like what this club is doing this inning.

I would have kept Thompson in there as he has done okay and deserved better.

I picked a bad time to catch an inning or two. Holy crap at the Card defense on two plays in the 6th. Querecuto and Herrera having little league flashbacks, focusing on something like the ice cream truck rather than the action on the diamond.

Then Herrera apparently thinks a throw home is a force out

When did they change that rule?

Amazing a guy can make it to the big leagues and do something that boneheaded.

Braves have stormed back to tie the Cubs. 3-3 after the 8th.

Miami and the Mets still 2-2 in the top of the 7th.

I have been switching back and forth between our game and the Marlins-Mets. Skip’s club needs a win in this second one – 2-2 in the 7th.

Marlins have the bases loaded and two outs, and Burger gets rung up looking on a two strike pitch that was clearly outside. He throws his helmet to the ground and is ejected. Skip runs out to argue his case – man, that was a bad call by the ump. Marlins got hosed there.

Ozuna just tied it 4-4 against the cubs with a solo shot in the bottom of the 9th. Matched his career high in HRs with 37.

Never did have that baseball under control when he stepped on the 1B bag. Safe as milk…

Not Herrera’s night. His DP kills a bases loaded, 1 out opportunity to tie or go ahead.

cubs push the phantom runner across in the 10th by advancing on a fly out, then scoring on a sac fly. Braves coming to bat down 5-4.

That solitary run seems to have a difficult time holding up for the visiting team with the make believe fairy tale runner rule.

Yep, Acuna just tied it up against the cubs, then stole 2B, so they’ll probably win. And they just did, poor cubs.

Anyway, that was Acuna’s 70th SB to put him in the exclusive 40-70 club. A guy was carrying the 2B bag off the field for Acuna’s keepsake. Man that bag looked enormous! Three inches makes a big difference. 😉

I’ll be surprised if anyone else is awarded the NL MVP. There’s a couple of others that I’d rather see get the award, but I have to acknowledge he’s pieced together an outstanding season all across the board. The SB’s are probably what will be the kicker that vaults him above the remainder of the players in the running for the award.

Does anybody ever look at that “key moments” column on the official Cardinals site next to the box score. What is this ever-changing “win probability” nonsense? What purpose does it serve and how in the world could anybody calculate such a number?
