8:40 p.m.
RHP Dakota Hudson (6-2, 5.12) vs. RHP Matt Waldron (1-3, 5.16)
BSM // MLB Network // KMOX
(and Bally Sports South/Southwest Extra)September 21, 2023 at 8:59 pm #234341This one starts at 9:40 my time here in Indiana. I will be at the titanic struggle of the Evansville Central Bears at the Jasper Wildcats high school football game early in this evening. I suspect it will be a 3rd quarter departure because the Central Bears come in with an 0-5 slate. With kickoff at 7:30 I suspect I will be home by 10:00 my time.
And din-din today will be a trip out to Lakeview, the Amish restaurant north of town that sits on the lake. Catfish Fiddlers, mashed potatoes/gravy, green beans, noodles, dressing, a piece of chocolate cake with white icing and some soft serve vanilla ice cream. Yum yum.
The Padres are hanging on by a thread. They are 4.5 games out of the wild card. They just about have to win out and hope a couple of teams in front of them tank.
September 21, 2023 at 9:06 pm #234342Maybe we can pull the Padres back down into the pit with us, lol.
We have our ace going so…..yeah.
September 22, 2023 at 5:23 am #234347I am thinking we will see Herrera in this one.
It seems unusual for the team to go all the way to the west coast just for three games.
September 22, 2023 at 6:48 am #234351I’d say it’s way beyond unusual to the degree of seeming bizarro. Not at all unlike this baseball season all across the board concerning all of the changes and the current overall feel of the game. I’ve heard it said that baseball sometimes mirrors life. Well, in my view the game’s changed in a big hurry along with the similar rapid changes in the world. Sometimes I think both baseball and the world have passed me by. I’ve simply been outrun and I can honestly say I don’t care too awfully much. At any rate, I’m looking forward to watching the post-season before the cold weather sets in. I detest winter and I absolutely hate shoveling snow…Haha!
September 22, 2023 at 8:30 am #234356Unfortunately, I think our chances are slim of taming Cy Waldron in this ballgame…….and I hate being a Negative Nelli like I’ve been these past couple of months, but our team’s poor play is to totally blame…….I take no responsibility whatsoever for gloomy attitude. I would have loved seeing Saggy ( Thomas Saggese to the layman ) get a taste of ML pitching down the stretch here, but that will come next year.
What’s on tap for din-din tonight one may ask? Not nearly delectable as Rat’s feast for a king, as I’m going with 2 Applegate dogs smothered in raw onions and yellow mustard, potato salad, deviled eggs and then I’ll swing on by Popeye’s drive thru to scoop up 3 apple cinnamon pies. Speaking of Rat, I think he’s in for quite a shock this evening, as the previously winless Central Bears are going to be locked, loaded and poised to administer a serious dose of misery and torment upon his beleaguered Jasper Wildcat squad. Let’s call it 37-13 Central shall we.September 22, 2023 at 11:58 am #234373By the way, San Diego has won seven (7) games in a row.
And Paul DeJong was released again.
September 22, 2023 at 2:46 pm #234379Seven in a row and a slim & sliver of a chance for a WC berth at 4 games back with 9 remaining.
September 22, 2023 at 3:37 pm #234384Contreras and Arenado placed on the IL. Their seasons are done.
Michael Siani and Irving Lopez added to the roster.
September 22, 2023 at 4:06 pm #234385Congrats to Lopez, he’s been grinding away since 2017.

September 22, 2023 at 9:43 pm #234398Cards trail 1-0 after three innings.
And Pugs, sorry, but Jasper pounded the Evansville Central Bears. 41-13 was the final. But the hot blonde was sitting about 2-3 feet to my right again, though..:)
September 22, 2023 at 10:47 pm #234400We are in a world where Drew VerHagan has the 3rd best ERA of the 14 pitchers on our roster. Basically there’s Helsley who is in the very good category, then King who is in the solid middle relief category, then VerHagan and Hudson who are in the maybe ok for the last pitcher on the mlb roster category, and then everyone else.
September 22, 2023 at 10:49 pm #234401I guess Pallante and Mikolas are right there with Hudson. Still ugh.
September 22, 2023 at 11:15 pm #234403Don’t know about King Jnevel. Seen him give up 1 run every inning hes pitched lately. Been watching San Diego trying to give us this game the last 3 innings. The bottom half if our order- the AAA guys have been absolutely killing ys. Totally inept at the plate. Hard to watch. Winn and Siani have no idea how to bunt. Its really embarassing. Really have my doubts about what they’re teaching these guys. Looks like we have some major organizational issues.Need to clwan house all the way through. Goldy and Palacios about the only 2 doing anything tonight.
September 22, 2023 at 11:31 pm #234404They need to trade Liberatore this winter while he has any value left at all.
September 22, 2023 at 11:32 pm #234405Liberatore comes in and gives up a double to Soto and a dong to Machado. Padres go up 4-2.
A two out single in the 9th by Edman and then Goldschmidt’s long flyball to LF is hauled in by Soto. When it left the bat it looked like it might be a dong.
4-2 Padres the final. They have now won eight (8) in a row. They pick up a game on Miami, Cincinnati, and Arizona.
September 23, 2023 at 6:03 am #234409Winn and Siani have no idea how to bunt. Its really embarassing. Really have my doubts about what they’re teaching these guys. Looks like we have some major organizational issues.Need to clwan house all the way through.
Lucky for us Mo plans on restructuring player development this winter. I felt so much better when I read about that.
September 23, 2023 at 8:47 am #234413Fair criticism, but when the hammers get swinging, everyone in the way gets pummeled. I feel the need to point out the fact that Siani was developed in the Reds organization and has been a Cardinal just three weeks. While they are at it, maybe St. Louis can restructure Cincy’s player development, too…
September 23, 2023 at 9:09 am #234415If Cincy and StL combined squads we might have a WS contender, lol.
September 23, 2023 at 10:37 am #234426I guess Pallante and Mikolas are right there with Hudson. Still ugh.
It doesn’t get discussed much here but Pallante has had a really bad season IMO. His numbers are ugly (worse than VerHagen’s) but they have kept running him out there several times a week all year, even before the deadline purge. At least he is durable I will say that for him.
September 23, 2023 at 11:02 am #234432The thing with Pallante is that he gets ground balls more than 70% of the time. It seems like this year a lot of those just got past infielders whereas last year those infielders got to them. I think there’s just as very reasonable chance that he bounces back next year. It would be nice to see him up the strikeouts a bit and decrease the walks some. But I really don’t think he’s much different of a pitcher than last year. He above everyone needs an elite infield defense.
September 23, 2023 at 11:36 am #234439Yeah his .283 avg against just doesn’t cut it. Perhaps that is because of bad defense and bad luck. Hopefully he is luckier next year. I don’t really like relying on luck though. Also, I would say our IF defense is much better than our OF defense.
