RHP Adam Wainwright (4-11, 7.95) vs. RHP Freddy Peralta (12-8, 3.79)
BSM // KMOX // WIJR
(and Bally Sports Southeast/Southwest Extra)September 17, 2023 at 9:07 pm #234052Wainwright, Rom, Thompson, and Mikolas – that is a murderers row right there.
September 18, 2023 at 8:06 am #234072Tonight is about getting Wainwright win #200. Otherwise, it is just another game to cross off the calendar before the off-season begins…

He’s running short on turns, so hopefully the home crowd can inspire the extra boost to not only get him through 5, but also to help place some life in the bats early. Real early.

jj-cf-stlParticipantGallegos has been very durable.
September 18, 2023 at 8:39 pm #234107Waino with his best pitching performance of the season…guess he really wants #200
September 18, 2023 at 8:53 pm #234108Helsley closes it out! Waino gets #200! In the process, Waino lowered his ERA by over half a run tonight.
September 18, 2023 at 8:57 pm #234109I told everybody for the last 2-3 months not to worry. I knew #200 was a done deal. The posters that were talking about how they might have to try and manufacture a win or two for him didn’t know what they were talking about.
Now he can retire and the Redbirds can move on to 2024.

ParticipantGreat performance tonight! I was on the edge of my seat! Great to see Waino get to 200.
September 18, 2023 at 9:07 pm #234111That’s fantastic. A great performance.
September 18, 2023 at 9:07 pm #234112Nice!! Missed this one as had some things going on I needed to attend to, but just saw the box score. Really good to see Waino finishing strong.
And Rats, you are funny dude! 😁
September 18, 2023 at 9:13 pm #234113Nothing funny about what he said.
September 18, 2023 at 9:14 pm #234114Just checked MLB scores and saw the Cards won 1-0. I wondered hmmm, that couldn’t have been Wainwright, could it? Checked the box score and there was his name, 7 innings no less. Congrats to him and glad he got #200 on a Wainwright-worthy performance.
September 18, 2023 at 9:38 pm #234116Sort of reminded me of the movie, “For the Love of the Game”.
Does he throw another pitch this season or is that all she wrote?
September 18, 2023 at 11:02 pm #234117Not only does he get the 200th W on 7 shutout innings of work, but he’ll also retire with the distinction of not having any other pitcher wear a Cardinal uniform for more seasons. He has one more season as a Cardinal than the great Bob Gibson and is tied with Jesse Haines with 18 seasons for most as a Redbird. And get this…His career W/L pct. of .610 is substantially better than the only other two Cardinal 200 game winners Bob Gibson at .591 and Jesse Haines at .571. Not a bad career for the towering righthander with the affable smile, friendly demeanor and a curve ball that would send Big League hitters straight to protracted therapy sessions. Thanks for the work, Adam!
September 19, 2023 at 2:59 am #234119What a lovely way to start my morning, reading about Wainwright’s solid performance and 200th win. Bravo Adam! I’ll have to go into the MLB-TV archives this afternoon to watch the replay. And a tip of the hat to Contreras for the potato.
September 19, 2023 at 5:33 am #234120Checking his pitching line in the box score, the 3 Ks in 7 IP stands out.

stlcard25ParticipantGlad to see Waino get #200. He’s one of the best guys in MLB, and it was difficult to watch him sputter all year. This was a Waino-esque performance and I’m happy to see him get his milestone in such a game rather than sneaking into a win. A feel good moment from a not so good year.
September 19, 2023 at 7:52 am #234125Adam Parrish Wainwright. Now that Waino has obviously figured out the key to pitching effectively with the tools that he has remaining, coupled with the Cardinals dire need for quality starting pitching, the question begs to be asked. Should Waino temporarily put his blossoming musical career on the back burner and grab the glove for one more season? If Waino can accrue just 10 more wins, he would leapfrog 15 other pitchers on the all time career wins list. Just one more victory, which could very well occur yet this year, and he moves ahead of Jon Lester, Tim Wakefield, Chuck Finley and some guy I’ve never heard of. Something to ponder.

Hi Pugs, to answer your question: If the Cardinals want any hope of competing for the National League Central title next year, the answer to your question is a resounding NO!!!
Baseball is a team sport.
Adam was hurting the team this year.

ParticipantCongratulations to Waino! A Cardinal career hero, and an even better person than he is as a long time successful ballplayer.
September 19, 2023 at 8:20 am #234131ALWAYS respect your knowledgeable take on things LACardFan, so my question has been answered. Waino should not be grabbing the glove in 2024. My thoughts on the topic were inspired by a recent dream. I dreamt that Yadi and Albert came out of retirement to join Waino for the 2024 campaign. It was a magical run as we ran away with the division and then drilled the Dodgers for the right to go to the world series. But then we lost in 7 games to Pittsburgh……..I have no idea how the Pirates entered the world series equation…….. especially against another NL club.

ParticipantThat’s one weird dream pugs. But it shouldn’t be. I felt and still feel waino should have hung it up last year, thought that way all last season. In fact if I was him, I would consider that being my last start. Great way to end a career. Congrats to waino. He’s my second favorite cardinal pitcher of players I saw. I wish him the best.
