After Thursday’s day off…
7:15 p.m.
LHP Zack Thompson (5-5, 4.06) vs. RHP Aaron Nola (12-9, 4.64)
Apple TV ONLY // KMOX // WIJRSeptember 14, 2023 at 3:04 am #233855Another stupid Apple TV game. I guess I will have to watch the Reds game on Friday night. Or are they on Peacock or something and I can’t get it either?
September 15, 2023 at 9:54 am #233908Maybe it’s just me, but I love these games on Apple TV. Nola has experienced rough waters this year, but he’ll be very effective this evening. I absolutely hate it when I know our Birds are going to flounder, but flounder they will in this ballgame. I see this one ending with the scoreboard reading Philadelphia 7 and St. Louis 3. And as a quick aside, there’s a dandy high school football game going on in Indiana this evening as Jasper travels to Evansville Mater Dei in hopes of stealing a win vs an upstart and quality Wildcat squad.
September 15, 2023 at 11:26 am #233909I don’t mind the AppleTV games as it gives me a chance to listen to the KMOX broadcast as was the norm in my formative years of baseball experience.
Nice road trip. I wondered whether or not we could even go 2-7, and I believe we ended up 5-4. Really like watching the kids get an opportunity to play some at the top level and build what they hope to be a future career. Winn is already there in the field – just needs to build the confidence and skills as a hitter. He looks like he will be a good one.
Love this Palacios kid! He might be my favorite Cardinal if he ends up earning a regular spot. He’s got the enthusiasm and athleticism that if he can hone the skills enough to be part of an every day lineup, he will be fun to watch.
Nice outing by Drew “CD” Rom against his former organization! His command, or lack thereof, concerns me but he seems to have good stuff. Develop the location and maybe we have something here.
September 15, 2023 at 11:28 am #233910Our pitcher has a lower ERA than their chump. We’ve got this in the bag.
September 15, 2023 at 12:51 pm #233916Pugs? It’s the Jasper Wildcats at the Evansville Mater Dei Wildcats tonight. Game could probably go either way. Too long a drive so I will be tuning in whilst me and Whitey Herdog are on the couch watching the Reds and Mets from Shea Stadium tonight.
I agree with your assessment. 7-3 Phillies in this one. And Arenado better get it in gear or he won’t get to 30 homeruns and 100 rbi’s.

September 15, 2023 at 1:16 pm #233917I’m liking this Palacios kid too. Love the name. I just hope he doesn’t one day start insisting we call him Dick.
September 15, 2023 at 1:52 pm #233918This team needs energy. He fits right in for that. I hope he sticks. Be nice to have Donovan, Noot, Palacios, Walker, Winn make this team fun.

O’ve course!

jj-cf-stlParticipantI think Gorman could have got to 30 HR, 80 rbi before the IL stepped in. Good chance he hits 30 HR the next 5 seasons.
I hope he’s on a Rizzo path.
September 15, 2023 at 3:28 pm #233921I pay to watch the Cardinals on MLB TV. I despise Apple TV.

jj-cf-stlParticipantArenado at 26 HR, 89 RBI
16 games left. 30/100?September 15, 2023 at 4:49 pm #233924I think Gorman could have got to 30 HR, 80 rbi before the IL stepped in. Good chance he hits 30 HR the next 5 seasons.
It will be great if Gorman hits 30+ next year and beyond. But his injury history is getting concerning. It could be better going forward, or worse, or the same. We can hope, but that is not a good strategy.
We will remember that Gorman’s 2022 Spring Training was limited to a handful of PAs due to a back injury. He did make his debut in mid May, and at the end of the month missed a few games due to his back. This year his back has acted up on him a few times, and he has missed some time due to it. He seems to have had even more trouble with it this year than last year. Just a quick scan and I saw reports of back tightness or the like in early May, twice in July, in August and then this month. I didn’t look into time missed, but he stands at 464 PAs, and a full load would be over 600 at this point.
I don’t know whats up with all that, but a 23 year old with a growing history of back trouble is concerning. If it keeps him from hitting 30 this year, there is not a super good reason the expect it won’t again next year. But I hope for the best.

#STLCards President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak said that manager Oliver Marmol will return for the 2024 season.

September 15, 2023 at 4:53 pm #233927Asked if he thinks the #STLCards need to add 3 starters, John Mozeliak said: “I think the answer is likely yes. I definitely feel like you need protection on the innings side. We’re encouraged with what we're seeing with guys here, but I think adding depth would be important.”

September 15, 2023 at 4:56 pm #233928adding depth would be important
The narrative is evolving.
September 15, 2023 at 5:06 pm #233929I would think it would be more important to add some quality as opposed to adding depth.
September 15, 2023 at 5:15 pm #233930Pity about Marmol, but but just further proof of FO thinking.
September 15, 2023 at 5:30 pm #233931
jj-cf-stlParticipantI hope this isn’t next seasons lineup.
September 15, 2023 at 5:58 pm #233932“I think the answer is likely yes.”
He’s already walking it back from a few weeks ago.
September 15, 2023 at 7:01 pm #233935Another Apple TV game? Stinks.
If they keep splitting up their product behind different pay walls I will simply stop consuming it.
I have a feeling this is just the beginning. Within 10 years you will probably need 4-5 different paid subs to see all the games……
September 15, 2023 at 7:03 pm #233936I hope Mo doesn’t add pitching depth. I hope Mo adds front line starters that are expected to be at the top of the rotation…. his statement does sound ominous though….
September 15, 2023 at 7:32 pm #233937
jj-cf-stlParticipantWell, I thought he meant IP depth, not depth players. You can add to IP depth with front of the rotation arms too.
September 15, 2023 at 7:33 pm #233938Down 4-0 after a half inning. If only we had some depth.
